PGI date in Delivery moved to earlier date

Hi,

I am creating a Sales Order with 2 items (m-10 & m-20)

One for delivery with-in next week, other for delivery weeks later. Such that Material availability date / Loading date / GI date etc. in the Sales Order are separated apart.

While creating a delivery the system automatically moves PGI date for 2nd item (that was planned to be delivered at later date) to match the PGI date of the first item. and thus the delivery date also

Can someo ne explain pls. the logic what happening here? What the PGI date for 2nd item is being moved in Delivery form that what was determined in Sales Order. and the implications of such ch ange... If customer wants delivery of "m-10" on 5th and that of m-20 on 25th, why it should be forced to take delivery for both item on 5th (same date as that of m-10!)

Thanks in advance!

/V

Vibhor,

The delivery date in the Sales order generally does not limit early delivery.  It is generally considered acceptable (and in some companies this is also promoted) to allow earlier delivery.  As long as the order is otherwise deliverable, you can deliver the order as early as you want.

If your customers do not want earlier delivery dates, then you normally set date restrictions within the delivery creation program.  In VL01(N) set the 'selection date' for, say, 'today', or maybe 'tomorrow'.  Likewise in VL10* series of transaction; set the 'Delivery Creation Date' such that the range of dates ends with 'today' or 'tomorrow'.

Hi Vibhore,

You can control the delivery date of sales order line item with Schedule line (Delivery Date) for each line Item.

SAP has Standerd functionality to allow the PGI Befor or after based on Material avalibility and confirmed quantity date in Sales order of each line item wise in Schedule Line.

It is a standard functionality that system will allow to post the goods issue on or after the confirmed quantity date in sale order schedule line tab.  This means, your PGI date at the time of creation would be blank and would not fetch any past date or future date unless it is manually entered.

Hi,

It is very simple while creating sales order for two items you just need to go the second line item schedule line and change Delivery date to 25th. and when you create delivery use transaction VL01n and enter the selection date prior to the second line item. Then Delivery will be get created for first line item.

Thanks Gajan. but this is not mu query (how to create 2 different deliveries form one sale order).

My query was - why the system automatically advance PGI date for 2nd item while deliver creation. Which I think "Dogboy " clarified above - as long as items are deliverable they CAN BE delivered at earlier date than customer request date.

PGI date is at header level. Pl see whether you have created two separated deliveries for two SO line items.
