MII 14.0: dedicated server required for demonstration purposes? or not?

In our project team, I am trying to find out how we can install SAP MII 14.0, for demonstration purposes, the best in our IT-landscape. We have the following questions:

  1. Should we have a dedicated server for SAP MII and its components.
  2. If the above is not absolutely necessary, can we install it on our demo ECC 6.0 server with PP running? What are the prerequisites for this (apart from the normal prerequisites for SAP MII)
  3. Like 2, can we install it on a ECC server with the eWM add-on installed on it.
  4. Could it be installed on a server with other SAP components; PI, BO etc.
  5. What are possible conflicts if we try to combine different software installations on one server.

Does anyone has experience in this? Hope to hear from you!

Martijn,

Please see my responses to your questions:

  1. Should we have a dedicated server for SAP MII and its components.
    1. Virtual Servers are fine for development & demo environments and then sizing can be done in a flexible manner as your applications grow and mature
  2. If the above is not absolutely necessary, can we install it on our demo ECC 6.0 server with PP running? What are the prerequisites for this (apart from the normal prerequisites for SAP MII)
    1. Yes, but MII requires the NetWeaver Java stack (AS Java component is the only requirement) so you will most likely have to deploy this Java stack to that environment.
  3. Like 2, can we install it on a ECC server with the eWM add-on installed on it.
    1. Yes, but once again MII runs on NW Java.
  4. Could it be installed on a server with other SAP components; XI, BO etc. Could you specify all these components?
    1. Yes, same as above…requires AS Java
  5. What are possible conflicts if we try to combine different software installations on one server.
    1. None, as MII is its own stand-alone Java Enterprise Application (EAR) and is by design separated out from the other applications on the server.

Hope this helps,

Sam

I would propose that any sandbox or demo environment could be used for MII 14.0 discovery purposes, but of course it would need to be suitable for the NW and Java requirements as mentioned in the admin and install guides on service marketplace.  If the environment is suitable then it can co-exist with other products and applications, but you need to do the proper investigation on what is available and what is needed per the guides.

Longer term productive landscape decisions for decentralized deployment or centralized deployment will logically follow the application uses cases and needs.
