Performing a heterogeneous system copy

I'm performing a heterogeneous system copy to migrate to a new OS.

I will be using the migration monitor to start a parallel export/import.

My Release is 6.40 so part of the process is manual.

I know that for the export process to run, that is, for R3load to run, the SAP instance

must be down. Did anybody come across any SAP documentation that states if the

SAP instance has to be down for R3ldctl and r3szchk while they run or if these tools  can

run while the SAP instance is up and running in production mode?

Thanks.

Hi Jamal

During the time of Export its not require to down the SAP instance. better you can perform the export off peak time during this process you can suspend the background jobs.

Thanks

Hi Jamal,

The reason for keeping SAP Application down during the export is already provided by Deepak. In case you want to keep the application up and running you can very well do so but make sure all the users are locked and nobody is allowed to login to SAP so that no transactions are being performed.

To have a consistent DB export should be the primary objective.

hi Jamal,

R3ldctl and r3szchk can be run during system is up and running.

But SAP do not recomand any mass change in DB after running these .because they will compute size of target  DB with present data.

Hi Jamal,

In order to have consistent database export, it is recommended to keep SAP application down.

You may not find any documentation which says , keep your SAP application running while you perform full database export .

Hope this helps.
