CTP and safety stock

Hi Gurus,

In our business, we have MTO/CTO end items for which we have the components forecast to stock.

We use CTP after product availability check in the check instruction.

At the component level, we have the safety stock planned.

When we create a sales order for the end item, it should trigger CTP to produce the planned order. At the component level also 'Automatic planning' is active. So, it should plan for the additional quantities, if there is no enough stock/receipt.

Our requriement is at the component level, it should consume the receipt or stock planned for the safety stock before calling CTP. We are using 'Consider Safety Stock Requirements in SAP liveCache' and during PPDS planning run we are creating the safety stock requirement.

Though I set product availability check as the first step in the check instruction, it seems it is considered only for the end items, but not for the components. It is planing more receipts, though there is an early receipt planned for the safety stock.

Appreciate your inputs on this.

Regards,

Manimaran M.

Hi Manimaran,

please check the planning procedure you are using for the finished products and the components.

Maintain Planning Procedures in customizing.

assign PP 3 to the finished goods.

copy  PP 3 Cover Dependent Requirements Immediately to a new one for the components and assign it to the product master.

Settings:

Event:

  • Changing a dependent requirement or a stock transfer requirement in PP/DS

Action:

Cover dependent/stock transfer requirements immediately with existing
receipts

Then the system will not create additional receipts on top of the safety stock receipts.

However if there is enough plannned receipts for the finished goods there is no reason for CTP to go to the component level. You have to check the lateness or shortage alerts for the components.

I assume the follow settings:

check instructions

Product Check First step

StartProduction Availability check first, then production

Hi Frank,

Thanks for your reply.

But if we maintain the Event 'Create or Change dependent requirement or a stock transfer requirement in PP/DS' with the Action 'Cover dependent/stock transfer requirements immediately with existing receipts', it will not plan for the remaining quantity, if the quantity required is more than the already available receipts, right?

We want to consider the receipts first, if the receipt is late or not enough to cover the total requirement, we want the system to plan new receipts.

Hi Manimaran,

then choose action

Cover dependent/stock transfer requirement immediately

please also check the entries in the product master

Maximum Earliness of a Receipt

Maximum Lateness of a Receipt

the safety stock shall fall in the intervall for consumption

do you work with characteristic dependent planning?

If yes check that the characteristics match.

How does the product view look before you create the sales order?

Is the safety stock displayed as surplus available quantity?

activate logging during CTP check. Maybe the log gives already some hints.

BR Frank
