Hi all,
I am not an expert of MSSQL and I am getting some troubles to plan the database transaction log backup in the DB13. The problem is that the transac backup is not overwriting old sessions on the media.
Actually , I have plan full backup every week on saturday night and then 4 transaction log backups every day.
We are using 2 medias to perform the backups, one for the full backup and one for the transaction log.
I have configured the transac backup with the options "Tape Unload" "INIT TAPE" "checksum" and "verify backup", but it's not working, the media is getting filled more and more and the old sessions are not overwriten and I dont understand why.
Can someone can help me to schedule the MSSQL transaclog backup and to configure it in the way that the old sessions are getting overwritten?
Thanks.
Denis
Hi Marius,
thanks for your answer. The problem is not about shrinking the Transac log but overwriting the expired session on the transac log media.
the media is configured to use local filesystem, and is growing untill filesystem get full.
I am using the INIT option with 13 days of rentention, but I still can see the old session in the media content.
Could it be that the old transaclog sessions are not overwriten because the old sessions ran without INIT options ?
should I format tapes an replan the backup with the INIT option in order to overwrite expired sessions ?
Thanks for your help.
Denis

Hi Denis
You take the MS Sql backup thru "SQL Server Management Studio" for this some of the reference links
