HANA Installation failed : hdbnsutil call failed

We are trying to install SAP HANA DB SP06 on the SAP HANA Appliance . When we run the setup from the installation master we get below message

Updating/installing SAP host agent on host: 'hananode01'...

Performing validation...

Installing HDB server...

Copying logs to /usr/sap/HD1/setup...

Could not install HDB server

The installation of SAP HANA system has failed.

Log file is located at: /tmp/HANAINST/log/setup.glf

Please find the attached setup.log file.

one my major concerns is  mentioned in the below lines in the setup log

We had to perform the re-installation of the SAP HANA Appliance have to bring up the system and make it available for a client .

Check who is the owner of exe directory and set it to SIDadm.

Hi ,

SAP responded to the OSS message and recommended the Appliance Vendor to restore the SAP HANA Appliance as it had somehow become unstable.

Under standard conditions the appliance should not behave this was. I was using the latest DVD downloaded from SMP as recommended. 

As of now the Vendor is going to restore the Appliance.

Hi Shaik,

According to your posted error information, it has no authority to execute program, whether you are using root account to install sap hana? if no, you can use root account to install.

Besides, if you do not want to use root, then you need to grant related authority to installer account and change access authority for access folder, such as chmod 777.

Hi Shashi and Nicholas,

The permissions for the hdbnsutil and hdbparam are specified by the installation master as /usr/sap/HD1/HDB00/exe/ fodler is created during the installation.

And as i am running the installation using root user it should have full permissions.

i also notice that when I go to the /usr/sap/HD1/HDB00/exe/ and run hdbparam or hdbnsutil

./hdbnsutil -createSecureStore

./hdbnsutil: error while loading shared libraries: libhdbns.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

./hdbparam --install

./hdbparam: error while loading shared libraries: libhdbbasement.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I am unable to understand why it is asking for these files and above all how do i get them to overcome the issue.

Kindly let em know of any lead with regards to this issue.

Please show the output of

cd /usr/sap/HD1/HDB00/exe

ls -lrt |grep -i hdb

and upload the /tmp/HANAINST/log/setup.glf.

and regarding your query about ./hdbnsutil -createSecureStore

Have you executed this with <SID>adm?

just see it is still complaining about permission.Now let's set the permission

chown -R hd1adm:sapsys /usr/sap/HD1

chmod -R 750 /usr/sap/HD1

we can try giving chmod -R 777 /usr/sap/HD1 also if we did not succeed.

chown -R hd1adm:sapsys /sapmnt

chmod -R 750 /sapmnt

let's try this now.

Hi Shashi,

My only concern was that the user <sid>adm and the file structure is created by the unified installer and when i uninstall HDB , <SID>adm and HD1 folder structure is removed .

So when do i need to give this permissions? as the installation had failed i would need to perform the uninstallation which will remove the file structure and the user <sid>adm.

I tried with the above options and had the same error

./hdbnsutil -createSecureStore

./hdbnsutil: error while loading shared libraries: libhdbns.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

./hdbparam --install

./hdbparam: error while loading shared libraries: libhdbbasement.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

My understanding is that the the library path is not pointing to the /usr/sap/<SID>/hdb<instance_nr>/exe

the above directory holds library files lib*.so

this should have been taken care of by the Unified installer.

any idea about the libraries?

Hi,

you can create the file structure manualy with permission. Then start the installation.

Add the usr/sap/<SID>/hdb<instance_nr>/exe in PATH environment variable.

Error log say that:

/usr/sap/HD1/HDB00/exe/hdbnsutil: Permission denied

So give needed permission to hdbnsutil or give full permission to it.

cd /usr/sap/HD1/HDB00/exe/

chmod 777 hdbnsutil
