Hi,
We need to update our HANA revision from 41 (sps05) to 61 (SPS06). We do not have HLM installed on the appliance so we want to updat the components manually. The documentation and notes for the update have me confused on some points
1. Can we update the db, studio and client from rev 41 to revision 61 without applying the patches in 45 or 60.
2. Is the order of the update hdb, studio and then the client?
3. Can we use SUM to update the patch and if it will update all the components?
Please help as this is our first crack at updating the HANA patches.
Thanks
Dee
Hi Dee,
I just went through a similar situation here, except I was upgrading from level 53 (SPS05) to level 61 (SPS06).
Basically what I did was upgrade my HANA Studio to level 60 first and after that, started up sum.sh and ran the automated update procedure through HANA Studio. This automatically upgraded SUM to the latest level.
After the update finishes and you restart HANA Studio, there is now an option to "Install HANA Lifecycle Manager". This will install HLM and then you can proceed with the rest of the updates (hostagent, client, db server, etc) from there.
Please note that if you get an error when you attempt to install the HLM, you most likely need to install the "libssh2-1" package of your SUSE Linux Enterprise for SAP Applications DVD. This was pretty frustrating and I think a lot of people that are upgrading from an older version will run into this.
Hope that helps.

Hello Jerad,
Thank you for your input. I was able to update the HANA version from 41 to 58 with SUM. Nowe we have installed the latest HLM on our desktop but when I try the automated update from HLM to revision 62 it shows that "" Am I missing something here? Or do I have to do a manual update to revision 62?
Thanks
Dee
I had to do the manual updates since the automated updating wouldn't work for me (it required me to enter proxy credentials when we don't use a proxy). I like the idea of the new HLM, but I think it's still pretty buggy. Give the manual updates a shot. That's what worked for me at least.

Hello Jared,
I agree the HLM automatic update for SP stacks seems to have some issues. I gave the HLM single support pack update a try (with Automatically download content option)and it worked for me. I had an issue after the HANA db update, but SAP support helped to resolve the issue. HANA revision has been successfully updated to 62.
There is one confusion. After the update was complete it says something about updating HANA studio from the updated repository. Does this mean the front end Hana studio?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Dee
I don't recall seeing that message, possibly because I had installed the latest version of HANA Studio on my PC before performing the update. I would assume that it's just telling you to update your HANA Studio application to the same revision (62).
Are you working on Studio from the HANA server itself, or another PC?
Hello Amish,
I just ignored the message and haven't had any issues yet . As Jerad mentioned it looks like it is just a message to update the HANA studio on your machine.
Hope this helps.
Jerad, My apologies, I never noticed your question at the end of your message. I am using the studio installed on my PC
Thanks
Dee
