Oracle RAC upgrade 10gR2 to 11gR2 using DBUA with oracle Vs ora<SID>

Dear All,

I am planning to upgrade SAP ECC 6.0 Oracle RAC Database from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3.

Based on "Configuration of SAP NetWeaver for Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.2 and Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g Release 2:A Best Practices Guide" white paper, if we plan to use DBUA we MUST reinstall Oracle 10.2 RDBMS and patchsets as user oracle:oinstall (Page-8).

But, from "Prepare the Database Upgrade" section (Page-32), this re-installation is only a recommendation not a mandatory task.

By doing the re-installation, upgrade process will take longer (down time).

I really appreciate if anyone can share the experience in upgrading RAC database using DBUA from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3 with ora<SID> user without reinstalling 10.2.0.4 RDBMS.

Kind Regards,

Abip

Dear All,

We decided to follow the white paper by re-installing the 10.2.0.1 and re-applying 10.2.0.4 as oracle:oinstall. And QA environment upgrade has successfully completed.

In addition, we register 1 SCAN IP address in /etc/hosts, instead of DNS server due to many considerations in customer side. tnsnames.ora and listener.ora configuration are almost same as in 10gR2.
