BO4 - Exporting universe to backup/qa environment

Hi,

We wish to have copy of universe on our test/qa platform and to this end we export the universe concerned from development to qa/test environment.

The only difference is that the test and development environments have different databases.

Thinking of the following.

Changing the connection on the test/qa platform to look at the test rather than development database.

Each time make changes to the development universe, just export the development universe (unx) to the test platform but not the connection - this way can keep the universes the same on both platforms but just have different connections.

Thoughts?

Kindly elaborate how you are promoting universes across environments?

If you are using Promotion management you do have the option to either override or no override.

I would suggest you to have at the below blog to understand Connection overrides.

Using CMC/Promotion Management to move content including universes betwene developement and qa.

Do we need to uses connection overrides?

Was thinking that if change the connection properties in the dev server once and any time change the universe ensure we don't promote the connection that would be enough.

Is this correct?

Hi Phil,

We usually promote the connection along with Universe from DEV to QA which promotes connection shortcut that's pointing to DEV along with Universe to QA. You can use connection override from CMC PM if you already have connection in QA. Below is the manual process to have control with you.

You can override the connection short cut pointing to DEV with new connection shortcut of connection pointing to QA through IDT (Retrieve Universe from Repository>Browse to QA connection in repository objects and create shortcut in the project folder where the universe was retrieved to overwrite it)

PS: you have to update the data foundation too to point to the updated connection shortcut, save and publish the business layer to repository.

hi,

With a unx universe with the connection being a separate element now to the universe can we simply pormote the universe and not select the connection and each time update the qa with changes made in the dev universe the qa connection properties would persist.
