HI HANA Artifacts,
I need some help in understanding how APO on HANA scenario works and how it can be realized.
Would really appreciate if you can share your views and opinions on it.
Thanks
Srinivas
Hi,
In one of the threads, Henrique mentioned that first realease of SCM on HANA was planned for Q3/13.
He also told that : "The idea is a gradual transition of live cache into hana in-memory.
First, they'll coexist, then live cache will be "absorbed" by HANA, meaning, it'll be "emulated" or developed with HANA components (I suppose the functionality live cache provides will be replaced by HANA views and other objects). In the long run, APO will then not depend on "live cache" anymore and be 100% based on HANA in-memory"
You can check the below thread for the above reference and some more info:

Note the ASUG link for Session 1201 is actually a separate application called Supply Chain Info Center providing Operational Analytic capability on APO Planning (DP and SNP currently) data. It needs separate HANA system if APO is not on HANA (side-car approach) with liveCache data replicated to this HANA DB in almost real-time (depending on frequency of replication).

APO on HANA is nothing but SCM on HANA where SCM Application (SCM 7 Ehp 2 for HANA or EhP 3) can run on HANA as underlying database instead of other DBs like Oracle, SQL Server, DB2.
liveCache is a separate in-memory object-oriented database (MaxDB) used by APO which continues to remain as-is. SAP has announced liveCache can use HANA as underlying DB instead of MaxDB. However as of now there is no integrated SCM DB and liveCache on HANA as DB. That will happen in future but the amount of code refactoring including rewriting LCApps (C++ compiled routines for liveCache) into HANA Stored Procedures.

Hi Somnath
Really useful information, as always. Have some question, which I will also email you internally:
1. Wonder if you knew what the latest developments are - in particular - if there is now an integrated solution for SCM DB and liveCache running on a HANA database, as mentioned, it would happen in the future?
2. And wonder what would be the benefit in just replacing the underlying SCM database (Oracle, DB2, etc.) with HANA - and LiveCache staying as is? Guess anything that does not involve liveCache would potentially run faster?
Best regards and many thanks,
Stani
Thanks Vivek

Hi Srini,
Have a look at this doc as well...
