Wholesale Distribution Industry and SAP Retail Solution

Hello,

I am sure this quesiton must have bothered some of us folks here.

Can we position SAP Retail industry solution for a Whoelsale distributor that doesn't do retailing (no store based sales)? The distributor is not into manufacturing as well and doesn't require Material Ledger functionalities (which is something Retail solution doesn't support)

The distributor does need ERP, SCM (Demand Planning, Sales & Operations Planning, supply netrwork planning, Extended warehouse management) functionalities.

I mean what are the major pitfalls one could encounter if retail is switched on?

Regards,

Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,

generally spoken ... yes, we can.

There is no general recommendation for wholesalers to use either standard SAP or SAP Retail.

Our wholesale customers use both. Some would have probably been better of with SAP Retail.

If the answer to one of the following questions is clearly yes, then this should be a
strong indicator to evaluate suitability of SAP Retail in more detail.

Big assortment?

Rapidly changing product files?

Please check out the following documents from SMP for key facts about the Retail solution.

Thanks Suck-Kyung,

The 2-3 use cases you pointed out are not relevant to this prospect.

We want to use Retail primarily to use a new SAP CD solution called SAP Cross Channel Order Management 1.0 since that runs only on SAP Retail. However we are wary of using it for lack on clarity on whether SAP retail would work with SAP SCM Demand planning/ SNP / Sales & Operations Planning etc. Please note that we are not positioning SAP F&R or SAP MAP for forecasting and planning respectively.

We are sure of usage with CRM and EWM, but it is the integration with the above SCM components that nobody seems ot have heard about

Gaurav
