Hi Experts,
We want to know about SAP Netweaver Gateway.
Please let me know where can we implement this ?
What is its main Purpose?
Can we use SAP Netweaver Gateway as a replacement to SAP PI for integrations between SAP and Non SAP systems? If so What type of integrations we can do with SAP Netweaver Gateway?
Thanks
Manaswitha
Hi Manaswitha,
In addition to the resources mentioned by Mohan Kumar Agarwal ,
a video introduction at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEOi4I3FD18&feature=c4-overview&playnext=1&list=TL3bhV2hLt6RU will give you some basic idea about the product. You can find more videos at the youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/sapgateway.
Now to answer your questions, it is not a replacement for SAP PI. Gateway is supposed to be used in Lightweight People centric on demand scenarios. It is not recommended to use this for very very huge volume of data(hence Lightweight). It is people centric and on demand because it should be used to fetch some useful data based on user request. For example in mobile applications, user will not be interested in all data stored in ERP tables, instead user will be interested in some data which is relevant for him. Based on the data user might drill down and request further data. In this case Gateway can be used. In one sentence,SAP NetWeaver Gateway exposes ERP data in form of OData service and allows the user to perform Create,Update,Delete, Read , Query operation on the ERP data via OData service. On the other hand PI is for automated integration where automatic data transfer occurs based on some rule.
Now with respect to integration, SAP already provides some Gateway integrations- for example 1. Easy Query: BW Integration with Gateway 2. SPI Integration 3. External OData service integration etc. This means that one can easily create OData service out of these data sources. If your integration scenario matches with any of the SAP provided integration frameworks, then you can use it.
Hope this helps you.

Atanu
