Predictive Analysis with BW on Hana DB

Hi All,

I am looking for some information how Predictive Analysis could work together with SAP BW on Hana.

The assumption is that both are in place in our landscape: BW on Hana and Business Suite/ERP on Hana.

The 1st scenario I consider is that the to be analyzed raw data has been loaded from external data sources with a guided ETL process into the 1st staging area (DSO) to BW on Hana. I’d like to provide to the general user some formatted reports (using BEx Query Designer and WAD/Design studio) presenting the data and a specific user group will be able to use Predictive Analysis to further analyses. Both using the same data source (DSO).

An additional scenario would be that "some" specific users are able to save the results of their PA analysis and this data is used as input for further PA analysis and/or BEx queries (for e.g. a broader audience).

Off course I’d prefer a slim approach meaning reduction of data redundancy (layers of persistent data) as much as possible.

I appreciate any suggestions, advice, hints to get these two scenarios covered.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Oliver.

Hi Oliver,

as of now, SAP Lumira (the underlying platform of SAP PA) doesn't support BEx queries as Data Sources. There is an idea in the Idea Place for that:

https://ideas.sap.com/ct/ct_a_view_idea.bix?c=6013C007-A70B-4283-93CE-2531683D816D&idea_id=07D77E09-...

(I suggest you vote it up, if you haven't )

Alternatively, what can be done for now is:

  1. Save the BW InfoProvider (Cube or DSO) as a View in HANA
  2. Expose that view in HANA as a HANA Offline/Online Data Source in PA
  3. Save the result back in some table in HANA
  4. Have a view created on top of this result table (previously) and have a Virtual/Transient provider in BW created on top of that view
  5. Have a Multiprovider consolidating the original Infoprovider (cube/dso) with the VIP on top of the result view.

I know that's not a perfect solution since not all functionalities from BW are exposed into the HANA view (e.g. exception aggregation, complex calculated key figures etc.), but that's what's available for now.

This series of blogs by can help with the first part (BW -> HANA -> Lumira):

Also, these help.sap.com links might help with the second part (HANA -> BW):

Henrique,

thanks for the reply. It gives some insight which might be a valid approach to follow for the described scenario (at least at the moment). There is big potential in PA and I am sure SAP will enhance its capabilities constantly.

Kind regards,

Oliver.
