Deleting Customers

Hi experts,

We have several thousand customers that were imported from our old system that we'd like to delete. Obviously we'll only try and delete customers that have never had any transactions.

This can be done via OV52/OBR2 and the business partners in BUPA_DEL. It it safe to do this? A few of the customers have customer contacts (table UDM_CCT_ATTR) so presumably it's worth not trying to delete those?

The other option seems to be backing them up in SARA and then deleting them in SARA.

Please can someone explain the best way to do this or if it's better just to leave them as flagged for deletion?

Kind regards

Dave

If a customer has not been included in a transaction, you can safely delete it from OV52. SARA takes more time, OV52 takes just seconds. It is completely safe, I used it on Live projects as well. No harm done.

Hello Dave,

If there is no transaction data posted on these customers, you can delete it using OBR2/ OV52. OBR2 also gives you the option to run in TEST mode before you can do it in Real run.

Thanks all for the replies. Kivanc, would you recommend doing it for customers even if there are customer contacts logged on them? By a transaction do you mean a financial transaction such as an invoice/journal etc?

Hi,

What do you mean by customer contacts? Do you mean contact persons?

If that is so, using OB52 is surely safe. You do not have to use SARA for a customer which has not been used in a transaction. By a transaction, I mean a sales order or a sales activity or a material document. Invoices, deliveries are transactions too.

If you mean 'sales activities' by customer contact, well that changes everything. A sales activity is a transaction as well, so you cannot use OB52, you will have to use SARA.

Thanks again everyone for all the replies, much appreciated.

Kivanc,

Customer contacts are recorded in UDM_SPECIALIST, recording when contact has been made with a customer. I'm certainly not looking into deleting any customers that have any transactions against them.

Kind regards

I just tried to delete some customers, but as the company code is productive deletions are not possible. This has put a big spanner in the works as it's not feasible making the company code unproductive, i work for a very large company. Hope this helps someone else if they're thinking about doing it.

Dear Thomas,

Its recommended by SAP to block these customers and put mark for deletion or you can also use them for future use if arises.

Hi Dave,

Customer archiving is always best thing to do , as you can retrieve it whenever you require it. So i feel like you should go with SARA.

Thanks,

Hi

If you are sure you dont need these customers anymore then go with SARA but I would reccomend you to block these customers and put mark for deletion or you can also use them for future use. When new customer needs to be open just change the details of this customer but for this make sure there should not be a single transactional data for this customer. Is depends on frequency and volume of your customers.

Hi

I suggest to go with SARA, as SARA will allow you to set deletion indicator for all the customer master tables including Address data which cannot be done using OV52

Hi Dave,

Please make sure that you have cleared all the open items for those customers before you do the operation of deletion.

Also the other way is to Block those customers for any transactions.
