Switching Over Standby With Production

Former Member

Dear experts

Currently we are having standby server which is applying logs from production system with brsend.

The standby server  is running brapply to apply those logs. Standby DB is in MOUNT state.

brapply command is as follows;

     brarchive -u system/systempwd -c -f -d disk -m 30 -sd

I have 2 problems :

  1. What is the proper procedure to start standby server to production.
  2. If we start the standby database for some disaster incident. then users are working on standby server running. What is the proper way and best practices to switch-over standby to production system.

Regards

Priyan

Assuming you have an SAP instance already configured to use this standby DB, and that the instance is currently shut down, then you should just have to shutdown the standby DB and re-start it normally, and then the SAP instance should start also. That is certainly the procedure we use for a similar configuration.

As for how to switch back, my procedure is to set up the old DB as a standby and get it, and keep it, synchronised with the ex-standby (now live) DB without disrupting live operations. Then, at a convenient time, follow the same procedure as above to take it out of standby mode and start it normally.
