Enterprise service enhancement

Hi

When we are enhancing the services provided by SAP, there are two options

1. Go to ESR start making required changes for enhancement and then generate proxy.

2. With 731,  there is also an option called as MDR, where-in SPROXY transaction i can directly create Data type enhancements.

     Then we need to import the WSDL into the ESR.

Could you please explain what adv/disadv and  preferred option for enhancing .

I believe you can use the 2nd way for a server proxy and for the client proxy we need to go with the 1st option.
