Dear All,

Our current System is on Linux 5 and oracle 10g , below are the support pack levels .

We are on SAP ECC 6.0 . We would like to perform the pre-production system copy on to Linux 6 and Oracle version 11g using SAPINST installation master . Please guide me in identifying the SYSTEM COPY GUIDE and Installation master .

Note :

We do not want to use software provisioning manager 1.0

1. Can i consider the above system copy as heterogeneous ?

Hi Sai,

1) This would be the Homogeneous System Copy, as only the release versions are changing & not the variants. DB will still be oracle and OS is still Linux, I believe that the Linux flavor will also be same from SRC to TGT.

2) Any restrictions, on why you would not like to use SWPM? You can totally use SWPM to do system copies? It is recommended in fact and for building the target system, where will you get the Installation Master now? SWPM is OK to do a system copy, IMHO!

3) You won't find the installation Master anymore, as ECC 6.0 is based on Netweaver 7.0, you will have to/must use SWPM.

To get the System Copy Guide, navigate as SAP Market Place --> Release & Upgrade Info --> Installation & Upgrade Guides --> SAP Business Suite Applications --> SAP ERP --> SAP ERP 6.0 --> Installation --> Copying Systems Based on NW 7.0 / 7.0 EHPs-SW Prov. Mgr. 1.0 --> Select your corresponding OS & System Type.

Akshay

Hello Saikumar,

If a system copy takes place between systems with same platform (operating system and database system), then it’s called HOMOGENEOUS SYSTEM COPY, which is your case.

Methods for homogeneous system copy

1) Backup and restore method (DOES NOT REQUIRE PRD DOWNTIME)

2) By using SWPM import/export method (REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DOWNTIME).

You can get the latest SYSTEM COPY GUIDE and Installation master through support.sap.com.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Saikumar,

The correct guide is Homogeneous. Heterogeneous is used on cross platform copy like Linux -> Windows or different database platform like db2 -> oracle.

The system copy is execute with SOFTWARE PROVISIONING MGR .

Search the docs on SAP ERP guides.
