DB Export (both ABAP+JAVA) via Sapinst

Dear All,

Could you please advise the prechecks before doing DB Export (both ABAP+JAVA) via Sapinst  as well as any Approximately down time (How much time will take for this activity) for this activity ?.

DB SIZE is below

Hi John,

For 809 GB Oracle Database , it will require the 6 to 7 hours downtime to complete the system copy.

As per the SAP Recommendation , we need to run the test case for identify the accurate downtime.

The above installtion Master DVD is enough for DB Export ?

SAP inst should run on DB Node ? Or It can be run any Nodes SAP and DB nodes ?

Hi John

For the export you only require the master DVD

I alway run the export on the DB node as this usually is the biggest node (in ourcase)

also if you run the sap on distrubited nodes remember to use SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME

Hi,

it would be good to have latest SBP installed in DB but it's not necessary

Ad kernel: I always update R3load, R3ldctl, R3szchk and dboraslib.so to a newest version available on OSS for given Kernel release.

If you can upgrade the whole kernel to latest 720 Kernel, this should prevent any kernel related errors.

Hi John,

Downtime for the system copy depends on the following parameters

1) Number of CPUs available on the source and target system

2) Number of application servers available on the source and target. IT will be useful in using distribution monitor.

3) What is the approach used for export- > Table splitting, Package splitting.

As a best practice you need to have trial run done for getting exact estimates.
