User Entry Report Symbols for SDS

Former Member

Dear Experts,

we have a functionality called as 'User Entry'. we can defined this 'User Entry' Report symbol at template level or at customization in GLM.

I am pretty aware about how to use this functionality in GLM. Once we defined the 'User Entry' report symbol, the will appear as Use Entry fields in GLM Print Screen ( CBGL_MP01) where user will add or modify the entry and label will get printed.

Now, Can we use this 'User Entry' type functionality in SDS reporting shipping? if yes, how?

means, in automatic report shipping at which point or on which screen user need to add the values to 'User Entry' fields?

How this functions in automatic report shipping process.

can anybody advise me here.

Thanking You,

Regards

Amol

Hi Amol,

As per my understanding, when we create user entry symbol in config, we should provide when this symbols should be exploded.

if we select at 10, then it would ask at the time of SDS generation from specification

if it is 20, it would expect from application data before shipping, we would fill this data using

function module. we can test it from CG50 or 54.

Thanks

Dear Amol

I am not sure what you are looking for. I try the other way around:

If you prepare a SDS WWI layout you use a number of symbols which do have different expansion time. Some are of type "10" (refer to remark of Rambabu) some are of type "20" etc. In context of SDS shipment you collect data from MM, SD and you use the released report to get the final report which should be dispatched. The data regarding symbol of type 20 is/can be stored in report distribution etc. and e.g. of type 10 is part of report body.

Now as you know in SDS shipment you have different subsequent activities. At the end you have a bundle of final reports a cover sheet. Further on there is a status net. Normally the whole thing is going on completely "automatic" without user interaction.

Using the "User entry" ones: you have a further interaction in GLM process before you execute the printing. The interaction is stored in data base etc.

Which type of data should be entered in SDS distribution process? Which type of data you would like to add using "user entry" symbols?

One example of use of user entry in GLM process is shown here: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3144884

Hi Chistoph,

Thanks for the reply.

I think we are going in different direction here...

My query is not about the expansion time or parameter symbol stuff..

As you know, we can define any symbol as "User Entry" so that, at least in GLM, it will reflect in screen for user to add the values, then user will add the value and it will get printed on label. That is why these are called as User Entry type as it is giving a chance to user to add or modify the value before printing...

to elaborate the same, below is the example. In this labeing scenario 'Cust.Material' is User Entry so that, user can add value here and it will get printed. so I am pretty clear about using it in GLM,

Now the let us moving to SDS part, as we know, in automatic report shipping process, system automatically will find the values of all the symbols and ship it automatically.

So my question is that, can we use this USER ENTRY functionality in SDS shipment?

Dear Amol

I did never tried to use this type of functionality in SDS distribution process. The issue is like this:

you have a "status net" in CVD1 (report distrbution process). Now to enter something (manually ??) (as with user entries) you need to stop the SDS distribution process on a specific status (which one? bundle ??) to do so and then (after entering the data) you need to process to the next step (manually). Therefore we can not "talk" about an automatic process any more (and I have real doubt that you would like to really use it like that). Clearly if the data is stored there could be a problem coming up with "subsequent shipment" as well because the distrbution process will use the same status net and therefore the process would e.g. stop in "bundle" (even if there is no need to "reedit" the data (as mentioned: the data could be stored as an "append" to CVD1 data structures).

This was one reason why, may be, i "misinterpret" what you are looking for (are we talking really about a manual entry???).

It is possible to enhance CVD1 to store more data as part of the process in data base (this is a "normal" parameter symbol (that was the reason why i included the "expansion" topic): now if you do not want to maintain something "manually" but you could specify clearly location of data etc. and the data is not part of EHS you need to prepare a suitable parameter symbol as part of layout to fetch the data. Here you need not so "stop" CVD1.

Check may be:

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3380754

Here discussion is ongoing regarding data to be printed in coversheet

GLm is "different" (can be) in comparison to other WWI processes (including report distribution process). Therefore you can not discuss "expansion time" without knowing the exact set up of GLM.

Hope I did catch now your demand. To make it short: in report distribution process you have two types of document: Raw report and coversheets. An "user entry symbol" can be mapped in my opinion to a "parameter symbol"; therefore data is there only in final report and not raw report.
