SAP ECC6.0 Ehp6 patch process

Hello experts,

Could you suggest what I need to patch the following system (SAP ECC6.0 Ehp6). As I understood, I need to patch the kernel first (the latest version is 7.40 as far as I can see), but the question is what to download? There are a couple of releases, ie "database specific" and "database independent", what would you recommend? (our system is installed on Win.Server 2008 x64 R2, DB: SQL Server 2008R2). Then, SPAM/SAINT, so - the latest release as well. Is SAPCAR really needed to upgrade? What version is available?

After this is done, I can patch system components, ie abap and basis, correct?

The latest releases are: SAPKB74002 SAP_BASIS 740: SP 0002 and SAPKA74002 SAP_ABA 740: SP 0002. But the question here is next - are these releases "cumulative"? ie include all the fixes for the previous releases, or I need to patch the components consequentially (ie one after another, beginning from the first release 0001) ???

And finally, third question - what functional components are required to patch (ie FI/CO, HR etc.), is the patch is critical for them (along with the patching of kernel and other system components)? As there are lots of archives for the functional components, could you suggest what archives I need to download (the names).

What else do I need to update the system? Am I miss something?

Thank you!

Hello Aleks,

As suggested in the previous reply , please download support package stack and install. Everything comes along with that

Hello Aleks,

What all to patch is customer decision based on the business needs so I am providing the answers to the technical question.

1. For Kernel Upgrade : please check the below Notes :

Note 19466 - Downloading SAP kernel patches

Note 1591607 - SAP Kernel for SAP_BASIS releases 7.03 and 7.31

2. For SPAM/SAINT update : EHP6 is based on the 731 release so check for the latest SPAM/SAINT update for 731 release.

3. SAPCAR : it is part of the kernel. So it is not necessary however you can still update it.

4. Software Component Patching : ABAP packages are not cummulative. So you have to apply all the packages. For Eg. If your SAP_BASIS component is SAPKB73103 and you want to update to SAPKB73109 then you have to apply from 04 to 09. You can define a single queue consisting all the packages. Now If you see that I did not write SAPKB74002. Why??  If you check the Software Componen Information in your system (System --> Status --> Magnifying Glass Icon), you should be able to see that release for the SAP_BASIS is 731 so you can not apply a SAP_BASIS 740 package.

5. what functional components are required. Check with the functional team.

#### Generally for the Support Packages Update, it is recommended to apply the Support Package Stack.  You can use the Solution Manager system to calculate the dependencies if you want to apply the Support Package Update.

If you want to apply the single package manually, you can check the prerequisites using  the below Note.

I hope I could help.

Gaurav
