Hi Experts,
I am quite new to SAP Solution Manager Dual Stack Platform.
I have installed a new SAP Solution Manager 7.1 DS System. Now I would like to install the latest Support Package Stack i.e. SPS08.
I had downloaded the SPS08, while downloading the Installation media, also I have got the Stack.XML file too for SPS08.
As far as I understand, SPAM could be used to apply SPS on the ABAP Stack, and JSPM could be used similarly for the Java Stack using the Stack XML file.
However, I would like to confirm, if SUM can be used to update both the Stacks of Solution Manager?
I was trying to find the SPS Guide for Solution Manager, but couldn't find such.
Please let me know what should be the best strategy to apply SPS08 to Solution Manager 7.1 DS System.
Also, I appreciate if you can point me to a standard SPS Upgrade Guide/Notes for SAP SOLMAN 7.1
Regards,
Akshay.
Hi Akshay,
Yes you can use SUM tool for SPS update on dual stack system.
In the SAP Note 1732061(Central Note - Software Update Manager1.0 SP07) you will find all the details of SUM tool.
The Software Update Manager is available on the SAP Service Marketplace at
http://service.sap.com/sltoolset -> Software Logistics Toolset 1.0 -> table
with the Software Logistics tools -> Software Update Manager <version> ->
Download Link.
For Solman 7.1 SPS update you can refer the Note 1801078 -Solution Manager 7.1 SP Stack 8: recommended corrections.
Thanks,
Shiva

Hi Akshay,
You can use SUM to apply stack to both abap and java stack, download the upgrade guide using sum from SMP-->Release and upgrade info-->installation&upgrade guides -->SAP components -->sap solution manager --> 7.1 -->Update of SAP Systems Using Software Update Manager - select dual stack.
for general recommendation and correction to apply SPS 08 look into sap note 1801078.

Hi Akshay,
SAP recommend to use SUM to update Solman 7.1 but it will take more time so i recommend to use SAINT for ABAP patches and JSPM for Java Patches. it is easy and fast also.
I have recently applied with SAINT/JSPM.
This is SAP saying:
But i have faced many issues with SUM tool so i have used SAINT/JSPM to update.
Uncar all patches from DVD which you have downloaded and apply.
Thanks,
Venkat
Hi Karthik,
Thanks for the reply.
I am looking into what you mentioned as "Update of SAP Systems Using Software Update Manager - select dual stack", but on Market Place, there is no such Guide.
Instead there is the Upgrade Guide (Ref. Below Screen-shot), which I have already checked.
This upgrade guide is for release upgrade i.e. From Lower SOLMAN versions (3.x, 7.0x) to 7.1
It doesn't talk about the Support Package Stack Upgrade for SOLMAN 7.1.
However, I checked the note 1801078 mentioned by you, and I found note 1577909, which describes the process, which I think Venkat has mentioned.
Regards,
Akshay.
Hi Venkat,
Thanks for your feedback. I am looking into it.
Which stack did you update first? ABAP, I guess.
Also, the same Stack File should work in SAINT/ JSPM?
Not sure, if SAINT is to be used or SPAM? We will be applying patches right? Are there new add-ons too?
Did you face any issues? Any learning(s)?
I have patched latest kernel, R3trans, tp, SPAM/SAINT Update.
I have also got a cold backup of the system, in case I need to restore the system.
Let me know what you think?
Regards,
Akshay.
Hi Akshay,
You can update either ABAP or JAVA first, i have used ABAP first then JAVA.
You need to use SAINT tcode to apply abap side.
Only one known issue i have faced for that you need to apply Note 1678047, this note should be applied before patch update start.
The precautions you taken are good to go.
Thanks,
Venkat
