Data level Security in SAP BO 4.0 for Dashboards and Explorer

Hi,

We use

SAP BO 4.0 IDT for Universe Design.

SAP Dashboards 4.0

SAP BO Explorer 4.0

Source system:   Microsoft SQL Server 2012  SSAS is the source (OLAP cubes)

BO Authentication type - Enterprise.

We create Universes on top of Analysis services cubes.   Data level security is implemented in SSAS level(cube level). Meaning, which user can have access to data an object is exposing.

Since our underlying source is OLAP cube, there will not be any data foundation layer.  We have only connection and business layer.  We will not be able to implement any restrictions using 'Manage Security' option at Information Designer tool level.

Now, the end goal is, when a user accesses a Dashboard from BI launchpad, user should see only data relevant to the user as per the data level security maintained at SSAS level.  The user details for SSAS is maintained in Windows server.

What are all the possible ways we can achieve this?

If we choose to have windows AD authentication instead of Enterprise authentication for BO, will this automatically takes care of data level security?

If anyone has done similar implementation can you please share your inputs??

Hey Vanni,

You will need to implement Windows AD authentication as per the following wiki.

So long as BusinessObjects is able to pass the Windows AD credentials of the user who is refreshing the report the OLAP connection will then return the data based on the security profile.
