new UserConcept on IBM i, Kernel 720_EXT, CONVUSRCPT

some questions to the experts:

1)

CONVUSRCPT (see sap-note: 1149318) there is mentioned under "preparations":

  • 2. Ensure that the user R3GROUP exists on all identified servers and has the same group ID (GID).
  • If the group ID does not match, you can use the API QSYCHGID to change it.
  • For more detailed information about the API QSYCHGID, refer to the IBM i Information Center.

Is this (same group id for User: R3GROUP) really necessary in all cases

or is it only a "must do" if we are using NFS ?

2)

we have an pi-system on NW-700 SP18 with an old Kernel 700 PL 310

we want to upgrade to NW-731 SP07 using SUM 1.0 SP06 or SP07,

for SUM 1.0 SP06, the SAP-System has to be converted to the new userConcept first,

so what to do first,

- change Kernel to (for example: 720_EXT PL4xx)

  following sap-note 1097637 (and 1097751, 1078134)

only by replacing the IFS-Objekt with new Kernel and then APYSIDKRN

- CONVUSRCPT

- the run SUM to upgrade the system

thanks in advance

Chris

Hello Chris,

1. The GID of R3GROUP has to be identical in nfs scenarios. If you are not using nfs at all it might work with different R3GROUP GIDs on different LPARs. By the way this is not tested in SAPs test landscape, because we use QFileSvr.400 AND nfs and therefore have to provide identical GIDs. So the note reflects what is tested on our side.

2. To upgrade your NW-700 SP18 to NW-731 SP07 you have to do it in the following way:

-     First you have to follow the note 1636252 ‘7.20-Kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11’ to apply the DCK kernel. Do not follow note 1097637 'IBM i: SAP-Kernel kopieren (Kernel-Version 7.10/7.11/7.20)' as this note is only for a starting kernel of minimum 7.10.

-    Second you have to use CONVUSRCPT as described in note 1149318.

-    Third you can start to upgrade the system.

Best Regards

Joachim
