Hello,

I am hoping someone can answer this question for me precisely.

We are new to SAP and considering to implement the functionality of SAP Solution Manager much later.

However, I want to ask what are the mandatory functionality that we must implement in our landscape aside the fact that we need to generate solution manager key with it.

Thank you.

You will need Solution Manager Maintenance Optimizer (MOPZ) to generate a stack XML and download all relevant files for installing SPs or EHPs. There is no other way to figure out what files to download. You need MOPZ only for single approvals of files, many files in SAP Service Marketplace require approval before being able to download the files.

Hello Jhon,

Solution manager is the tool that offer SAP for allow you to manage and control all your IT infrastructure, as a SAP license customer Standard or Enerprisse you are allowed to download and install SAP Solution Manager without any additional cost, Solution Manager is bases under Usage Rights as indicate Tom Celler

http://scn.sap.com/community/it-management/alm/solution-manager/blog/2013/03/19/sap-solution-manager...

The real mandatory options for use your Own Solution Manager are MOPZ like Samuli indicates before, and if your are in COE ( http://service.sap.com/coe ) you will need it as a coe requisite.

Another not mandatory options but really interesting ones are that, with SAP Solution Manager you will be able to get access to tools/scenarios that usually customers buy a third party software for that, like Incident Management, Technical Monitoring, Change Request Management, etc...

If you are new to solution manager you can find more information here:

hi,

Go live check, guided self services can be done by SAP only via solution manager.

For example, for go live check, SAP recommend to implement EWA and RCA to test the performance of the system.

Other features like, TDMS, CDMC can use solution manager as Control system, if you are going for these functionalities Solution manager is mandatory.

For creating mopz, ewa, rca you need to finish all the basic, managed system configuration.

Thanks

Hi John,

Solution manager aka solman is the centralized system for your landscape, like Samuli mentioned if you want to upgrade your any SAP product (ERP, CRM) it has so many components involved, it hard to find the relation between them manually , in that case you can use MOPZ to analyze your source system and select the target release it will calculate the files needed automatically, Nowdays you dont need solution manager key to install for the new releases (ERP 6.0 EHP6).

Monitoring - hard to monitor all the systems individually - with help of solman you have centralized monitoring of your landscape, you can configure to trigger email alert, or weekly Early Watch alert.

other fucntions are service desk, document management etc.....go through this www.sap.com/community/.../2009_06_Worldtour_SOL1_SAP_fr.pdf

I would say, before implementing any SAP Products, better to have solution manager system first...
