LVM post copy automation tasks

Good day,

I'm looking for information on what automation tasks(exactly) the Enterprise version of LVM can do when it comes to performing a copy/refresh ? It is important to be able to see what value this product can have for us with the particular system configurations we use. I received a license costing but I need to be able to see how much of the automation tasks it can or cannot do before I can make an informed decision.

Any information would be grateful.

Thanks.

Regards,

Nelis

Hi Nelis,

we have a central SAP note with more information on SAP LVM:

https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1527538

From there you can navigate to more information on

For BW System Copy / HANA migration there is a separate page on SCN with more details:

  http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-32414

As a first high-level overview on PCA - the following tasks are included:

Hello Markus, I'm currently testing sap lvm but i have a few questions about the pca.

  • by default the pca is programed in every client in the system in the following way
    • SAP_BASIS_COPY_INITIAL_CONFIG  in client 000
    • SAP_BASIS_COPY_BDLS in client 001
    • SAP_BASIS_COPY_BDLS in client 066
    • SAP_BASIS_COPY_BDLS in client 300 (this is the client we use)

     do we have to execute those task list in those clients?

  • during the execution the process fails while trying to execute SAP_BASIS_COPY_BDLS in client 001 (Client 001 is set for conversion of client dep. and independent tables, invalid conversion pair to <SID>CLNT001) and when I try to execute it manually from STC01 an error ocurrs and a message appears telling us that the tms configuration is not set so, Do we have to wait for this error, enter to the system set the tms configuration and click retry in the lvm? Do we have to configure the SAP_BASIS_COPY_INITIAL_CONFIG to set the tms configuration before trying to execute SAP_BASIS_COPY_BDLS? and if so, Would you please share some documentation about the process?

Thank you very much, any help would be appreciated.

Sorry about my english

Hello colleagues,

in 'INITIAL COPY' task list you find a task for activating TMS as a single system,

Please check task list and let it run.

why do you want to run BDLS in client 066. This is EARLY WATCH  client not usable in a productive way.

Best regards,

Hello Volker, thank you for answering, about the initial copy i have a system based NW 7.31 and i can't see that option in the task list, I attach the images regarding the tasks that i'm able to see, but since i'm not running the tasks list manually but using the LVM i can't check items in the list, what i think i can do is to make a variant and then run the process with that variant is this how it should work?.

About the clients for bdls i'm not that familiarized with early watch but it is nice to know that I should not run the bdls in client 066, do you know if I should run it on client 000, client 001 or client 301 or in all of them?

Thank you very much.

Hello Nelis,

You can also find additional information in the LVM FAQ document, that might help you better understand the overall value of SAP LVM.

Are people actually buying the high cost of PCA without knowing exactly what it can do ? Is there at least a temporary license for people to evaluate the feature ?

As an example I would like to know whether it can do:

* SSL certificate imports

* Content Repository changes

* RFC maintenance

* Job de-scheduling or removal

...to name but a few. Where can one see this information ?

This is a technical product meant for technical people but I can't seem to find any technical details in any of the guides apart from "key features" and how to install it. This doesn't help me at all when deciding whether to commit to the expense of the product.

Have you checked PCA guides for ABAP and Java systems from http://service.sap.com/instlvm?

I have indeed. There is no detail about the tasks it can perform so far as I can see.

Thanks for the reply.
