Hi,
I am ABAP programmer and heard a lot about SAP Hana. SAP HANA is every where.
I searched many forums/blogs but could not a straight answer to this question.
Some where it starts with SAP BI on HANA..etc etc..
Please help me with this question :--
1. What are the skills I need to pick up if I want to start working on HANA.
2. Will my ABAP Skills help me in HANA.
I do search the forums....
Thanks,
Jeevan.
I don't think there are any prerequisites, really - and you should sign up for the Open SAP course that will teach you (especially as an ABAP developer) the skills needed - see open.sap.com and register. The course itself is free.

Tammy

Hi Jeevan ,
As such there is no pre requisite to learn SAP HANA but fair understanding of how database works this will enough.
As per your experience you fit under SAP HANA Application.
from sap you need to take HA100 ( Introduction) then HA300 ,

http://training.sap.com/v2/course/ha300-sap-hana---implementation--modeling-classroom-098-us-en/
After that HA400 (

Hi Jeevan,
With SAP announcing its future products that would be based on HANA and have applications designed using Fiori ( based on Javascript), do you still feel learning ABAP development on HANA will be of worthwhile for the future ?
From what I have read on internet, SAP is looking at Technical simplification and of its products in the future and I really do not know where ABAP stands in its plans. Going forward, Javascript and HTML 5 would be the skills to aquire.

Venkatesh.

Jeevan,
In general you should be familiar with relational data base ( incl. SQL and procedures, etc..) concepts and multi-dimensional models.
If you not familiar with any of the above, Google is a good place to start and you can find ton of learning material to get started after which you can start the OpenSAP course. Belive me the OpenSAP course is really good and give you hands-on experience if you have access to an instance. The course content is very well organized with videos, guidance....
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi Aravinth
If you would like to write the certification in India, you need to contact the nearst pearson vue.
Just follow the below link,
http://www.pearsonvue.com/sap/
if you would like to clear the certification then you need to go through HA100 & HA300 materials. Along with that you need to have the practical knowledge ( Use Hana Sandbox on cloud ) and visit regularly SCN to see the questions and answers posted on HANA.
Best of Luck !

Hi Aravinth,
OpenSAP course is focusing mainly on development perspective of SAP HANA and that too mainly on XS.
For getting HANA certified you will have to learn a lot of other things too that are not included in the course like Data Provisioning, Reporting, User Administration and Modeling in detail.
You can easily find content on these topics in SCN or visit SAP HANA Academy for video tutorials
Do study HA100 and HA300 carefully and solve all the exercises given in both these books
You can appear for certification in SAP Teched or follow steps as suggested by Prashanth above
Hi Aravinth,
You can drop an email at education.india@sap.com for certification information. They will provide you all necessary information such as fees, exam/course details, certification dates and exam centers.
Here are useful links for SAP HANA Certification:
Hope this helps!

Hi Shyam,
You have 10 years of exp in Unix and if you also know Database Concepts and SQL then you can opt for SAP HANA Technology Consultant area - it generally deals with -
Installing HANA

System Architecture Implementation
Backup & Recovery
Security and Authorization
Data Provisioning
If you are willing to switch to HANA then you will have to learn lots of things regarding SAP esp for Data Provisioning as it deals with transfer of data from SAP or Non-SAP system to HANA system

Hi Jeevan,
We need to first start with In-memory database concepts.
SAP is offering 6 weeks free HANA training which is started on 27th May 2013. You will find all videos tutorials on opensap.com. Before starting with actual HANA course (Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA) it’s good to first go through Warm-Up (Warm-Up: In-Memory Data Management) sessions.

Hi Vinay
I am SAP BASIS Admin. I want to know following about SAP HANA.
Is this replacement of SAP NetWeaver?
In responsibility point of view SAP HANA is SAP BASIS person responsibility?
Mostly SAP HANA concept say about In-Memeory Data. So with my SAP on DB2 on AIX environment.. I can implement SAP HANA.
In case of no BW || BI || BO ... still SAP HANA required?
