IP address showing empty

Former Member

Hi,

In one the SAP system, in system >> status

>> other kernel info >> ip address is showing empty.

I have compared this system with others , could not get any clue.

I checked at os level etc/services, profiles, resolv.conf  and At table level "THOST" contains no entries. .

Any idea from where this value coming from ?

Thanks, Ganesh

Hi

have you tried to check file hosts ? If it is empty,  try to insert the line like ipaddress hostname fqn

From op sys ,  nslookup of server name return correct ip?

Hi,

host file looks fine, I can see the entry.

the only difference between other system and this one is the FQDN entry is missing in hosts file.

Host file - problematic system :

XX.XX.XXX.XX    abcabc          # sap-abc

Host file - correct system:

XX.XX.XXX.XX    abcabc  abcabc.XXXXXX.XXXXX.com XXXXXXXXX05 abcabcabc05.abcap.abctt.com

Hi,

This is a running production system, not sure since how long it is showing empty.

we are planning to test it (editing the host file) in a sandbox machine before touching the production system.

Yes, License is installed but is expired.

Is this related to license ?

Also, any idea, from where the system is picking the value (ip address ) ?

Thanks, Ganesh

Hi Ganesh

tbh i have not a clear answer because i've never seen that field empty

I do believe your license is not expired but in your sandbox you can try that too(which license is expired?)

I have the feeling that is call to the op sys via kernel, do you have the same kernel everywhere?

You made me curious

Hi Andrea,

Maintenance_ora is expired in both the systems.

Last week the sandbox was refreshed from production system, where as in production system the ipaddress is not displaying and in sandbox it is displaying.

So I do not think that this is an issue with license.

Yes, The kernel level is different.

However, In sandbox system after system copy  and before kernel upgrade the system displays the ipaddress.

So I do not think that this is related to kernel release.

Sandbox kernel release 720

production kernel release 700

Hi Ganesh,

Is Host Agent running on that server..? restart the host agent services and also try to update it to the latest.

What happens if you go to ST06 --> Detail analysis Menu --> LAN CHECK BY PING --> Application Server ---> 1xPing

?

Does it give you Server-ip ?

Hi Adi,

It gives me host name and not the server-ip address in both the systems.

Thanks, Ganesh

Hi Ganesh

Can the host be resolved with and without the FQDN ?

What happens if you ping the server from your PC ? (e.g. ping servername)

Do you receive a reply including it's IP ?

HI Ganesh

I have had a similar issue where the problem was our message server

Can you see the sap system ip address from

/Nsmms

double click on the instance and look for

HOSTADR

Best Regards

Hi Marius,

hostaddr having an ipaddress entry in /nsmms in both the systems.

Problematic one (production):

hostadr          XX.XX.XXX.XX

Correct one (sandbox):

hostadr (IPv6)          XX.XX.XXX.XX

Thanks, Ganesh
