Copy course contents from one server to another

Hi,

I have a requirement to copy all the courses from Production into the DEV environment. Our DEV environment (somehow) does not have lot many courses. What would be the best way to achieve this. I don't think going to the BASIS requesting a system copy is a good idea. Can we copy the files from OS levels ? Can someone point me to the right documentation please.
