Hello Experts,

I understand the basics of the IMG...

I need to know the steps involved in assigning transport numbers and actually carrying out a transport to a client.

Are there any links specifically for this?

Your question is not fully clear (and it is not a QM question by the way...), but you definitly have to check with the basis, as each system landscape is setup differently.

If you want to transport to clients on the same system, check TAC SCC1 for example.

This gets precisely addressed in basis module. As per my understanding,

  1. Whenever you carry out any changes in SPRO, system throws a window for customizing request. You need to click on create new request.
  2. System automatically populates a request number there.
  3. This can be set with internal number range and gets created sequentially.
  4. This unique number contains all the details along with tables in which the values get stored.
  5. You should release its sub task first in SE01 and then the main request.
  6. You can run various consistency checks before releasing the request.
  7. Later, every environment is linked to another. e.g. DEV to QA and QA to PRD.
  8. As soon as you release the request in DEV, it becomes pending in import queue of QA server, which can easily be viewed in STMS_IMPORT tcode in QAS.
  9. Similarly with PRD also.
  10. A good basis consultant can guide you better to understand how DEV is linked with QAS and how the number range for customizing, workbench requests are maintained.

Hi Verrazano,

Transport requests are of two types:customizing and workbench.Transport requests numbers  are generated by system and BASIS people do the maintenance  of transport no. ranges object. You must be aware of  your SAP system landscape also. There are many operations you can perform on requests like merging etc.You need to release transport request for other systems in landscape through SE09.You can monitor change requests through STMS.There are more concepts like creating projects,

merging,sequence of request,modifiable state.

Please search on,  you will get lots of material.
