Hi,
I am trying to install Sybase ASE ODBC driver for Windows on one of our test machine.
According to this "http://www.sybase.com.sg/products/archivedproducts/odbc", ODBC driver is now a part of SDK product.
For downloading SDK from http://downloads.sybase.com/swd/summary.do, requires a a Technical Support Contact registered with MySybase.
Can someone please guide, how we can register with Sybase for this product? Do we need to procure a license and only the will this service be available?
Thanks for your clarification and time.
Hi,
The Sybase ASE ODBC Driver comes with the Software Developers Kit (SDK).
You can find the downloads from:
http://downloads.sybase.com/swd/summary.do
As you mentioned you need to be a Technical Support Contact.
Go to www.Sybase.com
Select Login at the top right (if you do not have a login you can select "Register now!")
Once logged in you can go to My Account, button is at the top right where the login was.
Here you will see "Add Another Role"
There is a check box for Technical Support Contact.
They will ask you to validate this change through a technical Contact ID or customer number.
If you want to go through this process with a phone call the number is:
1 800 8SYBASE, Option 3 to speak with a Customer Server Representative.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
To download any Sybase products you need to be a customer and have a license through sales.
Only other way I can think of would be a trial ASE download(customer install as Simon brought up)
http://www54.sap.com/pc/tech/database/software/adaptive-server-enterprise/index.html
or
http://www.sybase.com/products/databasemanagement/adaptiveserverenterprise
I am not 100% positive ODBC will be in this trial download,
but would be the only other way besides sales to get what you are looking for.
I would suggest calling 1800-8SYBASE to help get you on the right direction.

Thanks Ryan. We do not need to redistribute SAP ASE database and also we don't intend to use it for commercial purpose. We need to use it for development and validation of our application which is supposed to work with ASE database at our customers'.
In such a case buying license would be necessary or can we get similar level of support with partnership? (Sorry to ask these questions again).
Short response, I'm in tech suport and do not know specific licensing questions.
I work more in the tech support rather than the licensing for the products themselves.
I'm not as familar with what we allow customers to do without gathering fully paid licenses.
To my knowledge, we do not offer any ODBC trials.
This is because you do not need a generated license to run ODBC as you do for
ASE (sysam licensing) and it would be impossible to monitor.
The only trial is for ASE which is available from the above link.
To make sure you are not doing something illegal or use a product without the specific license or agreement,
I would talk to customer service
or sales as they know what is allowed when using our products.

I hope this comment will be useful for everyone who will be searching for odbc driver. I found new Sybase ODBC driver which is released not a while ago. It has an evaluation period during which you can test it.

I work for a software company which is not a SAP partner or customer. Our customers use ASE. I want to use the ASE Data Provider to let them access their DB.
As we're not a customer/partner how can I get hold of the SDK?
Thanks
Dave.

Hi Dave,
Go here:
http://scn.sap.com/community/developer-center/oltp-db
In the middle should be a download section for ASE.
The SDK is included.
When installing you can run a custom install and just select the SDK you need.
To my knowledge there isn't a stand alone developer edition for SDK.
Regards,
Ryan
HI Ryan,
Thanks for your response but I can't see what you see.
I can see the download link for
"
Get a Free "Developer" Edition
of SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise
"
but I want the SDK which isn't included in that download (at least I believe I want the SDK to get the .Net-compatible client, which is what I actually want).
You said the SDK is included in that download but I can't see it. What am I failing to see?
Thanks
Dave
Hi Dave,
Yes I understand you want the SDK.
There is no free download for the SDK.
Download the ASE developer edition, it comes with the SDK inside.
When downloaded you can run the ASE installer.
From there you select 'custom installation'
Once selected you will see the list of products.
Select all the client tools you want. (ie ctlib, odbc, ado.net, etc).
Regards,
Ryan
Hi Dave,
Free SDK might be better. What do you mean by "stand-alone" - We only provide SDK for ASE including ODBC, ADO.NET provider, jdbc driver and Open Client. There are no installs with just one driver or the other. In this case - you can download free SDK. I've a KBA to navigate to the Free SDK:
https://i7p.wdf.sap.corp/sap/support/notes/2093510
Please check this out and determine if it meets your needs. There are no stand-alone driver installs but in the installer you can select custom install to select only the component you want to install.
Cheers,
-Paul

Hi Dave,
This please read this blog if you can't get to the link:

Thanks,

Hi Amal,
There is a trial/free version of the SDK up on the site currently.
Go here: http://scn.sap.com/community/downloads
There is an article titled "The SCN Download Center is Now on the SAP Store: What's New?"
In this article there is a link to the SAP store click it
Than do a search for "SAP SDK for Adaptive Server Enterprise"
Click the free trial and it will ask for your information and send you an email.
From the link you get you should see a list of the SDKs.
Thanks,
Dawn
Hi,
The ODBC driver does also come with the ASE server product.
The relevant files on Windows x64 will be in %SYBASE%\DataAccess64\ODBC.
Metadata that needs to be installed on the target server will be in the sp folder.
The main driver itself is called sybdrvodb64.dll in the dll folder, but it's best to copy them all, other will be needed if you intend to use certain security types etc
Run regsvr32 sybdrvodb64.dll to register the driver with the odbc driver manager.
If you want the latest fixes to the driver, then you do need access to the SDK. I *think* you get access to SDK if you have ASE license but best to check with the customer service team.
Cheers,
Simon
