HOW TO TRANSPORT UNIVERSE FROM UNV TO UNX ?

Dear Expert,

How to transport universe from XI 3.1 to BI 4. ?

i want to transport webi 3.1 to webi 4.0, Crystal Report 2008 to Crystal Report Enterprise and Crystal Report 2011.

Please send me Step By Step guide.

Hi Divyesh,

You can use the upgrade management tool (UMT) in BI4.0 to upgrade the reports and universes from 3.1 to 4.0. UMT is installed with the BI server.

You do not need to convert the unv to unx for the existing reports if you want to proceed upgrade only, unless you need to re-develop the reports for multi source universe which is supported in unx.

Hi,

Note that LCM (or Promotion Management for BI4.0 FP3 onward) is used for migrating between BI 4.0 servers, while UMT is used to upgrade from old version (eg: R2 or R3) to BI4.

If you are planning to upgrade the system, you should use UMT.

Hi Divyesh,

Conversion and Migration/Upgrade are 2 diffeent things.

You MIGRATE your 3.1 unv universes into BO4.0 and they remain unv universes in BI4.0 and can be used with MIGRATED reports. no further CONVERSION is required.

BI4.0 support UNV, traditional universes utilizing all traditional connectivity options.

BI4.0 also introduces new semantic layer and new universe format UNX. You do not need to CONVERT your traditional universes into this new format.

Upgrade Management Tool is part of Server installation package, it doesn't come with Client Install package.
