Database backup on external hard drive using brtools with compress mode

Hi Experts ,

sap database backup with brtools with compress mode ,and archivelog option with ( SAVE_DELETE) in external hard drive is it recommended  ?

please let me know I am facing problem in backups

landscape is : SAP ECC 5.0 on Oracle 9 , SUN Solaris 10 OS .

Yes... it can be use we are using this with ecc 6 oracle 10 since 3 years..

Hi Mohammed,

Oracle database backup using compress mode is also possible and customers do take such backups.

There is no harm in such backups.

Only point to understand here is since its an external hard drive time for backup and restoration ( if required from this disk) will be more as compared to situation with local hard disk.

Hi Mohammed,

If you use brtools, for online database backup it will have backup of

1) sapdata files

2) control files

3) backupSID.log file

4) backup log file

For redo logs with save_delete option

brtools will save a copy of the log file on the disk or tape and then delete it from oraarch directory.
