Restore Journals Error - Column () must be specified in journal file

Former Member

Hi All,

I am trying to restore journals with the package and I am getting - Column () must be specified in journal file. I have run a export journal in the same system and all I am trying to do is restore the journals into a different category.

I have downloaded the file and changed the catagory value to ACTUAL to ACTUAL_DUMMY. The restore is failing inspite of clearing all the journals.

Please help.

Thanks,

Sreeni

Hi Sreeni,

I'm having exactly the same problem.....downloaded the file, opened it in Excel, created a new journal, saved as text file, and changed the extension to .jrn. Upload was no problem, but when running the DM journal import package, I got the same error message.

I believe the notes mentioned above have been implemented (at least the text changes related to the first one were done).

Were you able to get any further on this?

Thanks!

Trond

Please show the "saved as text file"!

Hey Vadim

sure. The first two images show the file as it looks in Excel, and the last one shows the first half of the file as it looks in Notepad, i.e. as a txt file. This is the one I upload (no problem) and try to import, which results in the above error message. The only thing I modify is the extension, which I change to .jrn.

Thanks and regards

Trond

May be the original file is comma separated and after opening and resaving it becomes tab separated?

The original file exported from the system is like:

Comma separated!

Just performed the test:

Export journals.

Downloaded jrn file.

Opened jrn file in the notepad.

Removed most of the lines (kept single journal)

Changed some dimensions.

Upload the changed file to the server.

Import journals from this file.

Everything is correct!

Great....I guess comma-separation was the crucial issue. I did the same as you and now it works. Thanks! 🙂

That was the reason why I asked to compare original exported file with the file after Excel changes!

It's better to provide details about your particular issue... Including BPC version and SP, sample file...

Version? SP? BW?

Sample as text file, not Excel - may be some conversion issues between original file and after changes in Excel!

Its BPC 10.1 SP 25 and BW 7.4

Its text file only,i js opened with excel to understand properly, bcz if I open in notepad ,unable to understand the fileds all are separated with commas(,)

There is no SP 25 for BPC 10.1, you are talking about EPM version!

Just provide sample text line in the original jrn

And the same text line after changes in Excel!

Resaving comma separated file in Excel may result in format loss!!!
