I get up to step 23 of 36, and see this:

       An error occurred while processing option SAP NetWeaver 7.3 > MaxDB > SAP Systems > Application Server ABAP > Standard System > Standard System( Last error reported by the step: ABAP processes of instance DEV/DVEBMGS00 [ABAP: UNKNOWN] did not start after 10:10 minutes. Giving up.). You can now:

  • Choose Retry to repeat the current step.
  • Choose Log Files to get more information about the error.
  • Stop the option and continue with it later.

Log files are written to C:\Program Files/sapinst_instdir/NW730/ADA/INSTALL/NW730/ADA/STD/ABAP.

if you haven't tried to start sap manually from prompt yet,

log in as devadm

in windows

start -> run -> cmd

change directory to your kernel directory i.e D:\sap\DEV\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386 or 😧\usr\sap\DEV\sys\exe\run

type

STARTSAP name=DEV nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=nc-sapx64

Here is the resulting output. It jives with what I see in the SAP Management Console, which is that disp+work.exe doesn't appear to want to start.

D:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64>startsap name=DEV nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=nc-sapx64
STARTSAP failed
Details are written to D:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64\startDEV.log

D:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64>type startDEV.log
running sapstart.exe name=DEV nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=nc-sapx64 -wait
SAPSTART finished successfully on nc-sapx64_DEV_00, but at least one process doesn't run correctly:

Sequence for loading shared library in windows should be:

i. in the directory in which the started executable tp.exe is located

ii. in the work directory from which the program tp was called

iii. in the Windows directory

iv. in the path

It should have found required library in the path environment variable at the very least. You can try to put the library in every directory that has "tp" in it for last measure. If it is still not found, most probably DBSL is incompatible with current kernel.

I will suggest to use newest kernel available including the database dependent and independent part. Remember to backup the old kernel directory first.

I read through the cited posts, but I failed to see the relevancy. We're not using LiveCache, and this is a fresh install. Perhaps there is some point I've missed?

Hi Richard,

Please past the log of startDEV.log, along with that paste dev_disp and dev_w0 logs.

Deepak kori suggested to add the paramter dbms_type = ada in instance profile, make a entry in instance profile ( already there in the start profile).

add an entry for environment variable dbname (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm32/helpdata/EN/2b/f8993af7700577e10000000a11402f/content.htm)

As I have mentioned earlier, there is no file named "*dev_w0*" on any drive.

Attached is dev_disp (renamed to dev_disp.txt to permit upload).

The startDEV.log file looks like this:

running sapstart.exe name=DEV nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=nc-sapx64 -wait
SAPSTART finished successfully on nc-sapx64_DEV_00, but at least one process doesn't run correctly:

     disp+work.EXE, Dispatcher, Stopped, 2013 05 02 09:49:53, 0:00:23

     igswd.EXE, IGS Watchdog, Running, 2013 05 02 09:49:53, 0:59:02

sapstart.exe=>sapparam(1c): No Profile used.

The trouble appears to be around the message "Error 11 while initializing OS dependent part." What's error 11?

Setting DBNAME=DEV as system-wide environment variables and restarting the install process has no effect.

Hi Richard,

You have 8 GB of physical RAM, set profile parameter PHYS_MEMSIZE = 4096 and see the results.

still not working, try increasing the paging size and increase abap/buffer_size" values.

Hi,

try to run a "sappfpar -check" to check if some values in the profile parameter have to be adjusted.

Doing "sappfpar -check" produces no output.

You have to run it with user <sid>adm, and you have to run "sappfpar -chek pf=<instance profile>".

As wrote by somebody else also R3trans -d (or -x) is a useful tools, and you have to run it as <sid>adm user that has the correct enviroment setted.

0 Kudos

No difference.

D:\>whoami
nc-sapx64\devadm

D:\>\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe\sappfpar.exe -check \usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\DEV_ASCS01_nc-sapx64

D:\>\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe\sappfpar.exe -check \usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\DEV_DVEBMGS00_nc-sapx64

I've already posted the contents of the output from r3trans back on May 2. Is there something different you want me to do?

Please remember, you do this stuff every day, but it's all new to us, and the terminology is inconsistent. So please be specific. For example, if I say this:

D:\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe>r3trans -d
This is r3trans version 6.22 (release 720 - 18.11.11 - 11:29:00).
unicode enabled version
R3trans=>sapparam(1c): No Profile used.
R3trans=>sapparam: SAPSYSTEMNAME neither in Profile nor in Commandline
r3trans finished (0000).

But if I ask for help, I get this, and there does not appear any way to put in a profile, according to the build-in help.

D:\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe>r3trans
This is r3trans version 6.22 (release 720 - 18.11.11 - 11:29:00).
unicode enabled version

usage: r3trans [<options>] <control_file>

The control_file describes what R3trans has to do.

The following options are possible:

-c f1 f2 : Copy file f1 to f2 with character set conversion.
-d       : DB connect. Test if SAP database is available.
-e       : Explain the meaning of the different table delivery classes.
-g       : Get R3trans' capabilities (special features for managed systems).
-i file  : Import from file without using a control file.
-l file  : List the contents of file to the log file.
-m file  : List the contents of file to allow tp to create a cofile.
-t       : Test. All database changes are rolled back.
-t4      : Trace level 4. Switch on developer trace.
-u <int> : Unconditional modes. See below.
-v       : Verbose. Write more details to the log file.
-w file  : Log file. The default log file is 'trans.log'.
-x       : DB connect without access on any SAP table.
r3trans finished (0012).

Notice please that it doesn't say "profile" or "commandline", it says "control_file". Is that the same thing? I'm guessing "yes", so I try this:

D:\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe>r3trans -d ..\..\SYS\profile\DEV_DVEBMGS00_nc-sapx64
This is r3trans version 6.22 (release 720 - 18.11.11 - 11:29:00).
unicode enabled version
R3trans=>sapparam(1c): No Profile used.
R3trans=>sapparam: SAPSYSTEMNAME neither in Profile nor in Commandline
r3trans finished (0000).

And notice it still looks the same. However, if I put in an invalid filename, such as "r3trans -d xyz", I'll get an error that it can't open "xyz", so I'm assuming I'm correct in usage.

I'm posting the contents of this latest trans.log, in hope that there is something different here.

The command "R3trans -d" seems to run correctly, in fact you have return code "000" than means that the connection to the database is ok.

I suggest you also to runa "R3trans -x" it should be return "000" as return code.

The correct command for sappfpar is "sappfpar -check pf=<drive>:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile\DEV_DVEBMGS00_nc-sapx64"

Looking at the SAP Management Console (there should be a shortcut on the desktop) can yuo see something running?

Hi Guru,

I am installing SAP Netweaver 7.0 with Service Relese 3 on Oracle Virtual Box with Following and getting the same problem (CJS-30149 ABAP Processes of instance DEV/DVEBMGS00 [ABAP: UNKNOWN] during installation:

Windows Server 2003 R2 64 Bit

Oracle 10.2.0.1 directly patched with 10.2.0.4.

RAM for VM is 2048MB

Paging 100000MB

Earlier I kept Paging just 4096MB and got stuck at phase 27 (Starting Central instances like)

When I increase the paging to 100000MB it passed it but now at Phase 28.

Kindly advise

What is dbmgui? I cannot find anything called "dbmgui" anywhere on my system, therefore I cannot look at its log.

That version did not work properly with MaxDB 7.8.

I found a version at http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/downloads?rid=/library/uuid/802e5f37-a7f4-2d10-049e-9a7bb4079a1e called "SAP MaxDB Database Studio 7.8 for Windows (x86, 64 bit)" which worked.

I connected and it shows Data: 28.31%, Log: 2.50%, Sessions: 2.00%, so I don't think my log is full. I've got plenty of free disk space, and I haven't even finished the initial install, so I don't think space is a problem.

The latest problem, as reported earlier, is the inability to find dbsdbslib.dll, even though (as posted in another message in this discussion), the file is present in both places where it appears it should be.

Hi Richard,

Try this, open the start profile D:\usr\sap\DEV\sys\profile in notepad, change the below parameter

from :     SETENV_00 = PATH=$(DIR_EXECUTABLE);%(PATH) to:  SETENV_00 = PATH=$(DIR_EXECUTABLE);%PATH% (as per sapnote 1500638 eventhough this note gives solution while doing the upgrade to max db 7.8 ) let try this

after changing this try to restart the installation.,

Those lines are already correct:

D:\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\profile>findstr SETENV_00 *
DEV_ASCS01_nc-sapx64:SETENV_00 = PATH=$(DIR_EXECUTABLE);%PATH%
DEV_DVEBMGS00_nc-sapx64:SETENV_00 = PATH=$(DIR_EXECUTABLE);%PATH%

I've attached some of the configuration files, and below are the relevant environment variables:

COMPUTERNAME=NC-SAPX64
CPIC_MAX_CONV=200
DBMS_TYPE=ADA
JAVA_HOME=C:\java\jdk1.5.0_22
Path=C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;D:\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe;c:\bin;C:\java\jdk1.5.0_22\bin
PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE=AMD64
SAP_DIR_PERF=D:\usr\sap\PRFCLOG

Do you have any other suggestions, please?

Hi Richard,

1) Using Database studio, check whether MaxDB Database is running or not.

2) Use R3trans -d to check connectivity to the database.

Post the results from above 2  checks.

Additionally share logs from dev_w0 file

Regards,

Deepak Kori

I'm pretty new to SAP, so bear with me.

What is Database Studio? I don't see an option for it anywhere. Is it possible it's installed as one of the steps I haven't gotten to yet, since it stopped at 23 of 36?

There is no file dev_w0 anywhere. I did dir *w0*/s from the root of every drive on the system, and found none.

"R3trans -d" says

Hi Richard,

As per the error log, environment variable dbms_type is not set correctly

Could you check the enviornment for user <siadam> whether dbms_type=ADA has been set or not

Also check in instance profile of SAP whether dbms_type=ada has been set or not.

Please set this parameter wherever applicable and check the results with R3trans -d again.

Hope this helps.

Hi Richard,

sorry, I lost track of the problem.

So what is is currently?

Can you start your database? If yes, please try a r3trans -x od r3trans -d.

Please show the log.

If the error is still ERROR => DlLoadLib()==DLENOACCESS - LoadLibrary("dbsdbslib.dll")

please check the path variables for your <sid>adm user if there is the path to sapdb\clients\<sid>\pgm and sapdb\clients\<sid>\bin in it. (I once had a problem, where dbsdbslib.dll was referring to an other lib (libsqldbc77??) from this directories).

Please add this paths to your user environment and log off an on again, to make this variable valid, try to start you database.

If you can start yout database please use SAP management console to start your system (or start your system in dos box:

cd 😧\usr\sap\DEV\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64

sapcontrol -prot PIPE -nr 00 -function StartSystem ALL

If the system does not come up please post dev_w0 and dev_disp from D:\usr\sap\DEV\DVEBMGS00\exe\work.

Good luck.

Best regards

Christian
