Is Data Manger is the correct tool for this purpose?

If so,appreciate if can provide detail steps to go about it in Data Manager or Import Manager

Hi ,

1. Open Data Manager .

2. Select Records to be merged .

3. Right Click , you will get "Merge Records" option (13th number) .

4. You will get a screen with Left side will be a blank record to be filled and along with that those 2 (or more) records to be merged .

5. You have to select the data to be in the new merged field . There are 2 options .

(a) double click on each field and it will populate the data of that field in new merged record .

(b) right click on any record and select "set all" . You will get warning if any field is blank . ( its easy , you will learn yourself by playing around) .

5. After the data is being selected and filled for the new merged record , just select "Ok" .

6. Those 2(or more) records will be deleted from repository and a new record will be created .

7. If you right click on that new record and select "edit key mapping" . you can see that this record is merged record of 2(or more) records .

hope this helps ,

Hi Ann and Sagar,

Thanks for the reply.

An,

I am still not able to understand how it will merge key attribute like SAP#.

2 rows have two different SAP# but their other details are like Name and address etc are same , so while merging which SAP# it will retain. If SAP#1 has some attribute value blank and SAP#2 has some value in that attribute on what basis it can be merged.

Thanks again for your reply

Hi Reo ,

Q. so while merging which SAP# it will retain

Ans - It will be the one you select as winning record . This can be done by "select all" option of sap# .

Q. If SAP#1 has some attribute value blank and SAP#2 has some value in that attribute on what basis it can be merged.

Ans - You can manually fill the blank values if you selected SAP#1 is winning record .

Give me your mail id , I will mail you 2-3 screenshots of merging . sometimes picutres are worth of thousand words

hope this helps a little ,

Hi,

regarding the first question:

if your SAP# is stored as key mapping (recommended!) and not as a single field in the main table, the SAP# of the merged records will be appended! Data Manager does always perform an append of key mappings automatically!

Kind regards

Hi Reo,

Yes you can merge duplicate record in Matching Mode of Data Manager. These duplicates can be avoided while importing record in Import Manager by specifying the Match record field in Match record tab and giving appropriate "Import Action". If you are still finding the duplicates in data manager then perform following steps:

Matching Mode is used to find and merge duplicates.

Step1. In Data Manager go to Matching Mode and Select Transformation tab.Right click in Transformations pane and select Add Transformation then go to Properties pane and select the field you want to transform.Do the proper substitution in substitution pane example: Suppose that there are two values Marta. and Marta due to the "." MDM will interpret them as different values but they are dupllicates so to eliminate this problem you can use substitution. So specify ".' in From and Blank space in To .Create similar transformation for other fields as well.

Step2. Go to Rules tab and Right click in Rules pane and select Add Rules then go to Properties pane and select the transformed field i.e.[XFM] .

Specify the scores for success failure and undefined properties as per your requirement.Create similar rules for other fields as well.

Step3. Go to Strategies tab. and Right click in Strategies pane and select Add strategies In the Rules Pane select the rules you want to include in the Strategy.Min Score and Max Score are calculated automatically. It is the sum of all individual matching rules in this strategy. Low Threshold and High Threshold classify the matching results and must be set manually. They decide the Match Class for a record upon executing the strategy.

Step4. Go to the Records Pane and to execute the matching, select one or more records from the record set and right-click. Select Match Records from the context menu and select the relevant matching type:

• Selected vs. Selected matches the selected records with each other

• Selected vs. Results matches the selected records with the record set derived from the search criteria

• Selected vs. All matches the selected records with all records in the repository

• Results vs. Results matches all records that result from the search criteria

• Results vs. All matches all records that result from the search criteria with the records in the repository

Step5. On the basis of the Score select the record and See the corresponding matched records in the Matches tab and include the records you want to merge.

Step6. Go to Merge tab and for the selected matched records select the appropriate values and then right click in the bottom pane and select merge records. So the selected records are now existing as a new single merged record.

Thanks and Regards,
