Changing Hostname of a SAP ERP 6 EHP 6 Server

Dear All,

My Server is ORACLE 11g (11203) + Windows 2k8 R2

I have gone through SAP Note: 8307

but I believe this note is no more valid may be it was practical in the previous versions but no more or may be I am missing something.

Steps I have gone through:

1. changing the profile(DEFAULT.PFL, START_*****, SID_DVEBSG***) names replacing the hostname with new one.

     - I also changed all entries of hostnames in side these files.

2. changing all registry entries replacing the hostname with new one.

3. checking the services if the hostname is changed in all services.

4. replacing the hostname in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora

The status is when I am starting the Instance it starts up and after a minute or 2 it turns yellow in syslog it says:

Database: > ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

For this issue I searched on SCN and i found this SAP Note: 400241

I tried: SELECT OWNER FROM DBA_TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'SAPUSER';

and the result was: Owner: OPS$<Old Hostname>\<SID>adm

may be it should be OPS$<New Hostname>\<SID>adm

My password for administrator user is same, the only thing I need to change is hostname.

Please help,

Thanks,

Faizan

Hi Faizal,

The error is due to ops$ user recently even I have faced, recreate as per the note in 50088.

Check dev_w0 and trans.log(after running r3trans -d)

Usually you have to do a System Copy to properly change the hostname. Another option is to use the System Rename option in SWPM. You shouldn't attempt to do the involved steps manually, it might affect your possibility of getting support from SAP. Use the supported tools.
