Best practices for automated mass import of vendor article data

Hi experts, I am searching for best practices to automate the mass import/update of articles in MDM.

Vendors periodically provide article data in a file. The files have to be read in automatically.

Then the articles have to be enriched with internal values. Some values are default, some have to be entered manually by different business users.

So far I found documents about master data processes where one single data record is processed at a time. In a workflow, users are presented one work item per data record as well as screens displaying one record at a time.

How can I streamline mass processing so that the users involved can enrich bulks of new incoming articles? How can validation be taken care of?
