NW 731 Java, Oracle - sapinst hangs in Step "Create Database Schema"

Hello together,

I am just working on an Installation of an NW 731 Java with Oracle on SLES11 SP2 and having quite a hard time. I followed the Manual and to the best of my knowledge applied all patches. The installation hangs at the phase "Create Database Schema" and stays there for what seems like an eternity.

Here is what I do see:

- there is no more sapinstexe process, it fails shortly after the Phase "Create Database Schema" is entered

- the ora_sql_results.log from within sapinstdir shows:

@@ORA_CREATE_DBUSR.SQL
exit;

Output of SQL executing program:

SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Thu Apr 4 18:11:12 2013

Connected.

new   5:   :passwd := 'xxx';
old   6:   :defTablespace := upper('&&3');
new   6:   :defTablespace := upper('PSAPTEMP');

- and ora_create_dbusr.log shows:

old   4:   :sSchema := upper('&&1');

new   4:   :sSchema := upper('SAPSR3DB');

old   5:   :passwd := '&&2';

new   5:   :passwd := 'xxx';

old   6:   :defTablespace := upper('&&3');

new   6:   :defTablespace := upper('PSAPTEMP');

Enter value for 4:

Those logfiles are the last ones written in sapinstdir. When checking on the DB, user SAPSR3DB has not been created.

Has anybody ever come accross this issue or can help me where to start with further analysis?

Kind regards and thanks in advance,

Jochen

Hi Jochen,

Download latest SWPM from SMP and try, this issue is fixed.

Thanks, but that didn't fix the issue.

It seems that the SWPM was really the case, but I had to remove all Oracle and SAP stuff from the server and start a complete new installation from the scratch in order to be successfull.

Thanks a lot for all your time and helpfull advice.

Regards and a nice weekend,

Jochen

We had the same problem on NW 7.31/HP-UX, Giving full permission to the sapinst_instdir folder as well as it's sub folders solved the issue

We had similar issue while doing sandbox installation from production export. Issue was fixed after creating SAPSR3DB user ID (taking production ID as a reference) and re-trying. Hope this helps

Hi,

This is one of the bug in some installation master's.

You have to perform the following.

1. Stop the installation.

2.If you OS is like Unix or Linux, please execute ps -ef | grep orasid and kill the oracle process that has character like @*******

3. Give full permission to the sapinst_instdir folder as well as it's sub folders.

4. start the sapinst and continue with the old option.

This should fix your issue.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal
