Dear Tushar,
I saw your discussion,
I need your advice on data migration from SAP DMS to OpenText xECM .
I need to scrap the DMS completely, before decommissioning the DMS, I need to transfer the Meta data and the related document from DMS content server to Open text content server.
Please let me know the best way to achieve this data Migration.
Thanks,
Giridhar Dwaraka

Hi Giridhar,
Well, in a migration project like this it always depends on how DMS has been utilized to support the business process and your future business requirements for xECM. There is no standard program available in SAP to migrate DMS document to Extended ECM. So you will have to write a ABAP migration program that extracts documents plus attributes from DMS and pushes the document and attributes into xECM by using one of the public xECM API's. Depending on your xECM configuration you either have to create a corresponding workspace hierarchy based on the relationships of the DMS document to the transaction, or you will have to identify the proper workspace in case they are already created. Remember one DMS document can be referenced to n-many SAP objects, so in your program logic you need to ensure you maintain these references in xECM.
My firm is specialized on SAP Content Management and in particular large scale Extended ECM implementations. As part of some of our implementation projects, we have successfully done a few document migrations like this.
Good Luck,
//Peter

The document creation in J6NY always depends on the Business object you use for the particular transaction type. I am not seeing store business document option while you are creating attachments, this option should be available while creating an attachment to a transaction. Please check the document types you have created and make sure you have used exact business object.
With regards,
TOny.
Dear Tony
Thanks for making eyes on my thread
in this scenario i use two method
SAP Document Management System
which use CV01n for create document and attached
object link for customer...this is standard functionality for SD-Customer master-DMS integration
SAP Archive Link for Document creation with Customer master
i got success to fetch and display both type(From SAP DMS and SAP Archivelink) document
Even i got success to create Archivelink document from Opentext screen
but when i tried out to create SAP DMS document i got error..... how to achieve this ???!!!!
Waiting for expert reply...

Tushar Dave
I dont think u cant attach a document from J6NY to DMS, this transaction comes with Open Text and you can only attach scan copies to Open Text but not to DMS, but you can achieve this in CV01N as you mentioned earlier.
DMS is only meant for Document storage but where as Open Text is a content server and Archive link is a standard functionality provided by SAP to integrate external systems for storing of data.
With regards,
TOny.
Tony
What i did is ...i explain in Detail
--> You can store document in SAP DMS and ArchiveLink
for example i took scenario for customer and i had set KNA1 to Business object so
i can able to attached archivelink document to customer master...
so i did the same thing to DMS , i have set DRAW object and save document to Archivelink
throught CV01N so i can easily view DMS document throught OAAD transaction
now i did the Opentext setting to view this object
i got successsssssssss (i knew no one did this in OpenText with SAP DMS and Archivelink)
Now i m able to create any document (Except SAP DMS) from Opentext transaction...
is there any possibility to create new Customer from OpenText ???
and any possibility to create/edit record ???
Regards
Tushar Dave
Tusher, I understood ur requirement, but as far as my knowledge concern you cant attach the document or scan copy to DMS via open text transaction J6NY. Instead you can directly create a document type for Customer master and link it to Open text , then you can able to attach or create from J6NY.
Still im surprised to hear that you are able to see attachments from DMS in J6NY.
Hope i helped you a bit.
With regards,
TOny.
Ok Tony
just for info my first 5 screenshots directly come from DMS using J6NY
further help needed
Special thanx to Tony
one more help needed, have u done Portal Content Management by Opentext ???
i have some issue regarding it...
is there any possibility to view J6NY from SAP EP portal ???
Regards
Tushar Dave
