Raw Material availability Restriction, Imploding a PDS

Hi Guru's,

In a fresh APO-SNP implementation we are looking for a solution for a particular scenario:

We are implementing in a Consumer product industry that have as a main restriction the basic/principal Raw Material.

As part of the DP solution, we are forecasting the Demand, and also, we are forecasting a available stock on hand in the following weeks in a daily granularity.

There are some business policies that define the priorities and penalties in order to fulfil demand of particular Distribution Centres, this policies (as penalties and priorities) are defined in order to optimise the distribution.

Then, the necessity is: to know, what products and in which qty can be manufactured based in a projected Raw Material availability. We are thinking that maybe Imploding the PDS's will be a good advance in order to reach the final solution.

Any hint, suggestion or advice will be very appreciated.

Waiting for your comments,

Regards

Rubén,

The normal way to show projected stock available is within SNP, not within DP.  Unless your RM and SFGs can ONLY go into one and only one FGs, you have to make multiple planning decisions as to how and when you are going to process each of your RMs into FGs stock.  This becomes very difficult to do within DP; better to use the regular tools that SAP gave you for this purpose.

So, here is a commonly used standard process:

1. Create final demand plan at FGs level within DP

2. Release to SNP

3. Run heuristics to create unconstrained supply plan

4. Constrain the supply plan based upon availability of RM and availability of capacity at all BOM levels, using SNP Heuristics or CTM or Optimizer, choose whatever you intend to use for planning SNP.

5. A feasible plan, which includes Projected stock of finished goods, is now available in SNP for viewing within SNP.  Many companies stop here.

6. Optionally copy the supply plan back into DP.  Optionally constrain the Demand Plan to match the constrained supply plan within DP.

It seems like the we will use a little bit more time in the Design phase.

For this particular scenario, I have a supersession chain that involve at least 40 components, among other business requirements.

I will go forward with the desing at this implementation, if the desing team find some particular doubts we will go back to the forum.

Thanks in advance,
