MDM_CLNT_EXTR or excel upload via import manager during initial load?

Hi gurus,

We have 6 SAP ERP (Some R3 , some ECC) system in our landscape. We are considering how to upload master data into MDM system during initial upload phase. Should we use MDM_CLNT_EXTR functionality in ERP system, or should we better to use excel or xml upload functionality via import manager?

Thanks in advance.  Any ideas regarding initial loading for master data, please give me some tips. Thanks.

Hello Xin,

MDM_CLNT_EXTR can be used to automate the process if you have other systems already configured. SAP PI system must be used as intermediate system that will accept the data from Sender ECC system, convert the data in required format for destination system and then send data to target MDM system. If the above pre-requisites are configured then you can proceed with CLNT_EXTR.

Second option is to have data uploaded via Import Manager which is an easier way for mass upload.  In my opinion its better off uploading initial load using manual import process via Import Manager.

Note:- If the xml/excel is a huge file(~50,000 records) to be uploaded, Import manager might crash in between. Under such circumstances, source file must be split into multiple files for ease data processing.

Hope this serves as helpful information.! Please let us know if any queries/issues.

Ali

Hi Xin,

Since data volume is close to 200,000 records- please consider splitting files and then load data into MDM.

Also your repository might be customized, so in my opinion its better off performing manual upload.

Please remember to close this thread, if answered. This will help others to overcome suggestions in future date.

Feel free to let us know if any further queries/concerns.

Hi Ravi,

Sorry for replying so late.

1. The data volume may reach 200,000 totally.

2. It's one time activity, the delta load will be triggerd by web service for MDM.

3. Yes, we have PI.

4. MDM repository will be standard, and may be customed somhow in some cases.
