"Emergency" transport path during upgrade

Hi all,

We are about to start an ERP2005 upgrade project, and I need to figure out how to establish a temporary system that will be configured so that it is possible to perform critical transport to the production system if required.

Today there is a path like this: DEV -> TST -> PRD

We will need to establish a path like this as well: DEV2 ->PRD, so that we can perform critical transports to production while DEV and TST are being upgraded and tested.

Can someone please guide me to documentation or explain to me how this can be done?

I assume a system copy from DEV to a new server to establish the DEV2 environment, but from there I am not sure.
