I recently just upgraded to Crystal 2011, I have been able to connect to our Oracle Server on Crystal XI R2 without any issues but upon installing 2011
it is freezing up and giving me Oracle TNS errors/OCI problems, would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks!
Greg Y.
Hi Greg,
What version of Oracle client do you have installed? 32 or 64 bit or both?
CR 2011 is also a 32 bit application so requires 32 bit client to be in the list and PATH statement first.
What is the actual Oracle Error message?

Hi Greg,
I have never seen that error before... It's being returned by Oracle so it's not a CR issue. We assume the client has no problems. SQL Plus isn't a fair test, it always seems to work because it has unique hooks into the client engine.
Try a third party connection tool....
Does ODBC or OLE DB work?
Also, on that error using google I found this:
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:424289000563
And then of course there is Oracle itself:

Thanks

Thanks for the info tried several things - keeps coming back to a CR 2011 issue (I even updated to newest Oracle ODAC and set paths to the new home I created):
1) Oracle SQL Developer - connects fine
2) Tableau 7.0 + tableau Oracle driver - used both native Oracle and ODBC - connects fine
3) Excel 2013 - ODBC/OLEDB connects fine
4) Crystal Reports XI R2 - used ODBC, OLEDB and native Oracle - connects fine
5) Crystal 2011 SP4 - nothing works - get that same type of error
I have always kept the SQLNet.ora file to authentication of none, maybe it's something with the java riding under the CR 2011 interface? I am running JDK 1.6 (newest version)
I also tried changing compatibility mode to windows 7 (I am on 😎 and run as admin option as well.
Going to run repair on the CR2011 and tuneup utilities other than that I am stumped, have there been updates to CR since windows 8, strange though since XI works.
Again thanks for the help.
Also, it looks like there have been fixes since the original sp4 release, I purchased an upgrade but I don't have a service agreement?:

Hi Greg,
JDK is fine, I've use 1.7 and it works but not supported.
There is the problem.... "I also tried changing compatibility mode to windows 7 (I am on 😎 and run as admin option as well."
CR 2011 is not supported on Windows 8 yet. I'll see if I can find out which SP it will be added. I'll also test and see what happens if I can get the Oracle Client installed.
Patches won't help you at this time...
Thanks again
Don
Hi Greg,
It is interesting that R2 works... I ran out of time but I'm getting an Oracle server installed and the client config'd then I'll test on Windows 8 to see what happens. If the others work I don't see why 2011 won't work either but it may be a reg key missing. You could try Procmon and compare, may indicate what the differences are.
Still don't know when CR 2011 will be supported on Windows 8.
