Hi
Now I want to install SAP on Window 2008 R2 with HA mode as active-active mode only.
I would like to understand that if we install the DB on one box and CI on another box and
make them on MCS cluster. Is it OK or any better solution, please suggest
Regards
Vimal Pathak
Hi Vimal,
By the standard SAP HA solution, application servers are running on both nodes at the same time which means that active-active mode (from SAP application server point of view). Let's assume that the db instance running on NodeA. At the failover stage, when NodeA crashed, the database and ERS services transferred to the NodeB and the system continue to the run.
I hope that it is clear.

Hi Orkun
Thanks for your reply
I would like to know some more details as below for implementation:
Node A: Database Instance
Node B: Central Instance
Node A and Node B is on MCS Cluster
I will install Dialog Instance seperately on Node C which is not on cluster.
Pl confirm if I am right
Thanks & Regards
Vimal
Hi,
Please find the configuration with the standard HA installation, below;
Node A: Database Instance + ASCS + ERS + SAP application server
Node B: ERS + SAP application server
With this scenario, you can attach another SAP application server instance (Node C), safely.
Do you have a specific reason to make an implementation, as below?
>> Node A: Database Instance
>> Node B: Central Instance
>> Node A and Node B is on MCS Cluster
>> I will install Dialog Instance seperately on Node C which is not on cluster.

Hi Vimal,
Your setup should be as follows
Node A: Database Instance
Node B: ASCS
Either Node A/B : Central Instance
You may decide to install Dialog instance on 3rd Server or you may install it on either of the 2 servers.
Both Database instance and ASCS instance will be part of MSCS cluster.
Hope this helps.

Dear Orkun
Thanks
No specific reason why I will go for the installation as mentioned. But We are doing the same way in Unix environment.
In your explaination, I would like to know that how to differenciate between Application server and Central Instance (CI)
Please send me the screen shot and procedure details if you have something from your experience.
Mr Deepka has explained in simple way. please review and confirm that it is write or some other best method is available

Vimal,
>> In your explaination, I would like to know that how to differenciate between Application server and Central Instance (CI)
Both nodes (NodeA and NodeB) has an application server, but ASCS has been installed as a cluster resource which is central instance. When NodeA fails CS services will be transferred to NodeB. With this configuration, no need to install NodeC.
Please find the installation sequence in the installataion guide, below;
