Hello

I wander how to apply service pack for MSSQL 2008 R2 based system.

I guess backup is needed and then just exe has to be has to be run in a low activity period. Am I right?

However there are two/both built 10.50.2500.0 for x64 (  SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-ENU.exe and SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x86-ENU.exe ) .  Which one to use?

thank you in advance

Jan

Dear Jan,

You have to install service pack both on database server as well as application server.

while installing service pack on database server, first of all you need to stop SAP and SQL server, take backup and then install the service pack.

You can download latest Service Pack (SP) for SQL Server from:

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads

Hope it helps.

Hi Jan,

Please have a check on the below link and find out whether your system is 32 bit or 64 bit.

http://www.lytebyte.com/2009/08/04/how-to-check-if-my-processor-is-x86-32-bit-or-x64-64-bit-in-windo...

If your Windows is or X86 ( 32 bit ) -> then you can go ahead with  SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-ENU.exe ... if your system is X64 (64 bit) , then you can install with SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x86-ENU.exe

I also see that you are using Service pack1 for your installation. But in the market I see already SP2 has been released.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30437

If possible download the latest SP and install it.

I hope the information helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal
