In this same server we installed SAP ABAP and Portal system with Maxdb7.6. to change environment variables we installed MAXDB toolkit.

After that while installing Solman 7.1 with Maxdb 7.8 in Phase 4 (Install Database Client) we are getting above error and MaxDBRuntimeForSAPAS_install__.log file not created.

Kindly reply what can be the possible reason for this.

For more details Please find the attached SDBINSTMsg1362575563.log.

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade our existing MaxDB 7.6 DB to MaxDB 7.8.

We have downloaded the MaxDB Software (51042685_10 for Windows) and MaxDB update software (51042685_12 for Windows). As per the standard upgrade document it says to run below command from the MAXDB_UPDATE folder

"DBUPDATE.BAT -s <SAPSID> –d <DBSID> -u <DBM,DBM password> [ -dir <temporary directory> ]"

I have a doubt that the download which i have (51042685_12) is only 240 KB. Whether we need to start upgrade from 51042685_12 software or 51042685_10 (In this DVD also DBUPDATE.BAT is available.

Kindly Suggest.

Hi Sreekanth,

It is best that you upgrade your MaxDB 7.6 before trying to install 7.8 on the same server (for upgrade info see snote 1353266).

Could you please check if you have followed the procedure mentioned in snote 1478170 for installation.

Please also check the followings:

- go to sapdb\programs\bin directory and run:

xinstinfo

sdbregview -l

sdbverify

- go to sapdb\programs\pgm and run:

dbmcli db_enum

Hi Sreekanth,

Thanks for the info.

Could you please also let us know if you have followed snote 1478170 for installation. SAP system with kernel 7.1 are only released for MaxDB 7.7.

According to the note you need to use SAP MaxDB RDBMS 7.7 and after installation you need to upgrade to 7.8.

Hi Sreekanth,

You are already trying to install MaxDB 7.8 in the same server. The issue is that you want to keep the existing databases without any upgrade. it is best to make them consistent.

According to the installation procedure for Solman 7.1 with MaxDB 7.8, you need to first instal 7.7 and then upgrade to 7.8.

Please note that the programs and libraries in program path (sapdb/programs) will be updated and used by all database instances. See: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/1549d945f71a74e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm

Based on the following link the global listener is also downward compatible and should not cause any issues to have the 7.6 databases

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_8/45/376baca05f6bf1e10000000a1553f6/content.htm

I haven't had different release of MaxDB on one server but I think it is possible.

It was also best to install these systems on separate server. I guess if you need to restart one system then you need to restart all. see: http://scn.sap.com/thread/690627

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Shahab

Hi,

We stopped our installation in the phase ( install Databse client ) and trying to install with MaxDB 7.7 we are getting below error after giving the path of MaxDB software.

ERROR 2013-03-13 18:15:40.379

Error during execution of command identifier 'DB_ENUM' : com.sap.dbtech.rte.comm.RTEException: Cannot connect to host localhost:7210 [Connection refused: connect], -813.

Kindly suggest.

One more thing if we upgrade old MaxDB 7.6 to MaxDB 7.8 will it be ok to install Solman 7.1 with out any issue.

Hi,

Please first check if the localhost in hosts file is correct.

Please also see http://scn.sap.com/message/13911130

as for upgrade, it is best to install Solman 7.1 with 7.7 first and then upgrade the databases to 7.8
