SAP JVM 5.1 needed for CRM ABAP 7.0 EHP 1 ?

Hello,

I have a question:

We have CRM ABAP 7.0 EHP 1 with SAP_BASIS 7.02 and kernel 7.20 unicode 64bit (patch #300).

We have activated the VMC (transactions SM52/SM53).

report RSVMCRT_HEALTH_CHECK works fine

The instance profile has no parameters for the SAP JVM set

but the following parameters and values appear in report RSPFPAR:

jstartup/vm/home = /usr/sap/CM0/DVEBMGS11/exe/sapjvm_5

SAPJVM_VERSION = <blank>

DIR_SAPJVM = /usr/sap/CM0/DVEBMGS11/exe/sapjvm_5

DIR_CT_SAPJVM = /usr/sap/CM0/SYS/exe/jvm/as400_pase_64/sapjvm_

--->       *** all these sub-directories do not exist ***

My question is:

Do I have to apply the SAP JVM 5.1 (current build 081) to the kernel?

(using APYSIDKRN as we are running on iSeries)

Would it have a positive effect on the system performance (especially for

the CRM Web Client that uses the VMC) to do so?

Kind regards

Rüdiger Höckel

Hi,

  Yes. Please  download the SAPJVM_5 and extract  it to usr/sap/CM0/DVEBMGS11/exe/sapjvm_5

Java component is required for CRM VMC .

But as per the PAM, it is better to have SAPJVM 4 version rather than 5 one.

Please download SAPJVM 4 and uncar it to SAPJVM 5 folder as above.

Please check what is the environmental variable set for sidadm user.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal

Hi Vimal,

thanks for your fast reply.

We don't have a CRM Application Server Java, "just" a CRM ABAP 7.0 EHP 1

so the PAM information is only valid for a Java server.

In addition, as were are running on iSeries just extracting the SAPJVM_5 file would not be enough,

on UNIX this might be valid.

Kind regards

Rüdiger

In the meantime I got an official response from SAP:

Dear Mr Höckel,

I am sorry for the confusion that the previous responses may have
raised. The colleagues were probably misled by the key term SAPJVM.

The SAPJVM is SAP's Virtual Machine solely dedicated to running
in the J2EE server.

In your CRM business scenario, however, you are using the VM Container
to process pricing and/or configuration requests implemented in Java.
The VMC is integral part of the ABAP server and brings its own VM as
part of the regular kernel installation (specifically, a Java 1.4 VM in
a 7.0x kernel, a Java 5.0 VM in all younger kernels).

So, in conclusion, you need not worry about SAPJVM 5.1 if you are only
using the ABAP server. The respective profile parameters seen in RSPFPAR can safely be ignored.
