We want to upgrade IGS from 720 lower patch level to 720 higher patch level available. Does this warrant for Kernel also to be upgraded from 720 lower patch level to higher patch level. This popped up in my head because, the date when the latest patch level for IGS 720 released coincides with the latest Kernel patch release as well...although not the same date but with 2 weeks apart. I know its best practice to keep both Kernel and IGS at the latest available patch level. How does one gauge IGS to Kernel patch level compatibility because there seem to be many kernel patches but fewer IGS patches within a certain release or it doesn't matter which version kernel is on and which version your IGS is on. Can anyone please lend your views.

Kalyan
Hi ,
You need to make sure that the kernel is of same level.. Like if you want to upgrade IGS of 720 then your kernel should be 720 whatever the patch is .
But SAP highly recommends that you download the latest kernel patch and use it... Coz of many bugs will be fixed in the latest version.
You shouldn't uncar 720 IGS in 700 or 701 kernel...
Thanks and Regards,
Vimal

Thanks for your responses Juan and Maria. The system in question is a PI system. Do you know what sort of testing does IGS only patching would entail. We have simple IDOC to file interfaces for message processing. Don't know if RWB / Integration Repository / Integration Directory and other web elements use IGS for graphics rendering. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Kalyana,
If IGS is installed on the ABAP stack - if you call transaction SIGS this is the Admin Tool of the
IGS server - there a few Chart test's that can be done from here.
Cannot see how IGS would be used for your scenario. Mainly IGS is used for generating graphs for BW reporting for Web Based services.

Oisin
If you have a particular issue with your current version of IGS, you can indeed patchs IGS on its own, theres should be no impact on the other components of the kernel.
Its recommended that you test your patch in this case IGS in your Sandbox before releasing it into your landscape.
