Hi,
We are running MPS 3 times a week in adapting mode, then MRP runs once a week in a regenerative mode(after the receipt of the forecast).
Appreciate if some one can suggest why we need to run MPS and then again MRP also. Also explain what exactly MPS in adapting mode means and MRP in a regenerative mode means.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Aditya.
MRP is not a subprocess of MPS.
For triggering MRP, your MRP type will be PD or P1, or in series.
For triggering MPS, your MRP type will be M0 or M1 or in series.
MRP : We can use it for all the materials.
For planning run, use tcode
Total planning MD01
Single item multi level planning MD02
Single item single level planning MD03
MRP in background - MDBT
Stock list MD04
MPS: Finished product & important assemblies are planned separately. These are called MPS items. System creates requirements for the BOM directly below only one level.
MPS - you are planning for MPS items with more frequency to make sure you can procure or produce MPS items with more accurately and ensuring stock status changes in less frequency. Why you are doing this, may be you are ensuring that these high value items and high risky items planning should be accurate and should not hamper you production.
MPS is done only for One-level of BOM
MD41 - MPS run
MD43 - Interactive planning
MDO4 - Result.

Thanks Vivek,Sharat,Srini for the valuable inputs. I have awarded points to all of you.
Appreciate if you can please give me some tips( Pre-Requisites which we need to check) which will help in understanding the MD04(Stock/Requirements) screen and evaluating the results.
If possible, can u please share me the links where we can find the "Exercises" to increase expertise in MRP/MPS evaluation. Thanks again.
Hi Aditya,
Go through some links below, i feel already Mr Srini posted the transactions which are useful. Use MRP type with MPS and try the scenarios and test it.
Try with different MRP types firming types, and use planning time fence option. Maintain master data with different MRP types and planning strategy and check the result after MPS run.

In MD04 you can find only MRP type in stock/requirement list. Rest all MRP elements and details as per MRP run, and you can use same evaluation transactions to evaluate MPS result run. Check below screen for more details

Hi Aditya,
You can get dofference between running MRP and MPS in the forum.
