Dear Folks,

Is there any possibility, while updating Windows OS level patch or Antivirus can cause issue in SAP PI server or any SAP server?

Sample Environment:

OS: Windows NT  / DB: Oracle  / SAP EHP 2 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0

Thanks

Praba

Yes there is a possibility if you are applying O.S level patches then it can effect your SAP instance running on it. Doesnt have to be windows it can happen with Unix / linux too.

Amit/ Folks,

@Amit: Thanks for your response.

I agree SAP instance has to be stopped before updating OS patch. did the same.

Before applying Symantec patch update or Windows OS update, everything was working fine in one of PI environment. After doing that having qRFC inbound queues (Smq2) entries are running status for ever.

After clearing first entry irrespective of any messages in SMQ2, other entries are going thru by unlocking...This is strange thing.

There may be possibility that windows OS level patch update or any OS update can cause in SAP server. Not sure on that.

Before applying OS level patch/Symantec patch update, everything is fine.

There is no new transport or development change after that patch update also

Hi Praba

This is a little strange to occur. were these queues not full processes when you took your system down for patching ? or this is happening to all NEW requests which are coming ?

Thanks

Amit,

These are new requests after OS patch update/antivirus Symantec update which got stuck in smq2.

This is very strange behavior. Usually OS Patch update does not affect the Application.

can you please check qrfc logs , SM21 for any signs of errors. Also if there is an issue something will get logged into work process logs. Please check and if possible attach some log files with errors.

Thanks

Amit/Folks,

Already analysed all logs example DB logs, SM50, ST22, all Traces.

Finally concluded that OS patch update did not create this issue ....by disabling Symantec update /Rebooting server.

Every thing is working fine after Symantec update disable

This may help some folks in this forum.

@Amit: Thanks for your help.

Good to know that your issue is resolved. It is always difficult to analyze how third party products affect SAP.
